Does anyone know where you can buy Monk Fish?

My wife had it once in a seafood restaurant and we have not found it since.

I would like to try cooking it on the EGG. Does anyone have any experience with this?

    ECE,

In Canada, monkfish is referred to as "poor man's lobster". It has the same texture as lobster and a very similar taste. It grills extremely well and works in seafood dishes like Cioppino, Paella and Jambalaya. You should be able to get it at any fishmongers if not the seafood counter at the supermarket. It is really good grilled with garlic and butter. You need to trim some of the uglies off but it isn't much.

    LS,

That is exactly how it was introduced to us at the restaurant, "poor man's lobster", and the wife loves lobster.

I just do not know where to get here in ATL.

Can't help you in Atlanta, Maybe Fidel, Bacchus or Doug123 could help. Here it is pretty commonly available though. It doesn't look real good in the package but, as I said, a little trimming makes it look like lobster tail meat.

You might check with the Gwinnett International Market in the old Bass Pro Shop building on Shackleford Rd. It is really a big Asian market with a huge fish department. They will clean to order in several different manners. I get snapper, grouper, and wild shrimp there.

If you want I can swing in and see if they have any, it is only a few minutes from my office.

    Rod,

    Thanks for the advice.

I definitely want to get some Monk Fish, just hoping it would be a little closer to home.

If you are by there, please take a peek but don't make a special trip.

    Thanks,
    Greg
  • How about Whole Foods or what used to be known as Harrys on Powers Ferry Rd.? The Whole Foods by me in Duluth carries Monk Fish.

Sounds like you have some good suggestions Greg.
I am doing fish on the egg this weekend for the first time. Getting some salmon from warehouse club. Havent decided if I will plank it or go raised/direct.

    Ron,

My wife preferred the Salmon direct on a raised grid.
