For cooking aid "gadgets", I have a Thermapen and Maverick ET73, but for a basic timer I've been using a simple windup timer, which crapped out in no time.
So what are you folks using out there? I’m thinking what would be great would be a battery powered digital table unit, sort of like a start/stop watch.
Something like this:

I tend to leave things lay, so I prefer This Guy . Can hang it around my neck, and not miss an alarm because I went into the house or even down the street.

Wow!
I thought this was supposed to be fun and easy. Look at all the equipment. That's starting to take the fun out of this. We just got our egg and never dreamt this was going to get so scientific. -
The ET37 has both count down and count up timers. So why not use just that?

it doesn't have to be scientific.
all you really need is a campfire to cook on.
i was taking temperature measurements at different places in the egg so i could understand more about how it works, that's all. -
I was in one of the two Egg dealers in my area, picking up a CI grid, talked to a guy who was shopping for his first egg. Not only did he want the X-tra large, he wanted to know if I had gotten the BBQ guru blower thingy.
And he didn't even know about this forum yet! (course I told him
I know the Marverick has a programable timer. I keep it in the box unless I do a serious long timed cook. All them little micro switches are a PITA.
I just need a stand only timer that I can use without programming...thanks for the ideas.
