Cleaning Ms. Daisy?
OzarkQ
Posts: 150
I've gummed up Ms. Daisy. I thought it would be a good idea to slather her with a bit of cooking oil for protection, but it ended up getting a little greasy and she sticks shut until hot.
Uh..
Dang - I know someone like Stike is going to jump on that.
What's the best way to clean the DFMT? I tried scrubbing with kosher salt, but the nooks and crannies are hard to get into.

real simple,
do a clean burn on the egg at about 600 degrees and set the top on the grid inside the egg. close the lid and let it burn itself out. next day take the top out and it will be white and squeaky clean at that point. if you are in a high humidity area spray it with a little high temp pam or baking spray so it won't rust. if not you are good to go.
cleanse by fire!!
after the burn you can crumple a ball of aluminum foil and scrub the inside of the dome to remove the scale. -
I 2nd the cook it idea..
I always stick my daisy on the grate while the egg is cooling off. Keeps them all nice and clean and seasoned. -
yeah. i say, just use it and it'll be back to normal in no time.
cleaning the daisy is apparently on my "once every 10 years" list. won't know until ten years have passed though, only been five.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
The easiest way to clean a daisy is get a bucket, pour some amonia in it add daisy and water. Wait a couple of yours and was and scrub off. Clean as a whistle. Amonia is a wonderful thing. Learned that one from my mother of 86.

That's the method I prefer also. On;y thing is be careful of the fumes and if you are on a septic system NEVER pour ammonia down the drain! Set it outside to evaporate.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time
