Large BGE -- backsplash clearance?

Hi -- My husband and I just purchased a large BGE but have not assembled it yet. We are in the process of having an outdoor kitchen built and need to provide grilling countertop dimensions to the contractor. We were initially going to have a 24" deep countertop with a backsplash, but my husband noticed that when he opened the lid of the BGE in the showroom that it looked like it needed extra room to open.
[Granted, since we haven't assembled the BGE yet we also have not taken into consideration how high the lid rests when open and whether or not it would rest below the height of a ordinary backsplash...] We might just open the box and get started on assembly today, but if anyone has an answer it might save us some work (the construction area is a mess and we don't have anywhere to put the BGE yet...).
Has anyone placed their BGE in a countertop with a backsplash? If so, could you tell me what depth measurement worked for you? (I've been to the nakedwhiz.com site, but have not yet seen specs that discuss backsplash clearance -- unless I've just missed that part...).
Thanks. mcaren

You need approximately a 7" x 7" clearance from the rim to the wall and the counter top to the top of the backspash with the lid open. This assumes that the top of the countertop is 15" from the bottom of the base of the BGE when installed in the countertop. Those countertop dimensions are on TNW site basic table plans, the backspace clearance is not.
I have drawn in a rough little black box to show you the 7 x 7 area I am mentioning above on the table plans I used for my table. I hope this helps.
My table is on my blog.

NOTE: IF you are building next to a 'wall' you need a NET 10" plus to clear the damper top with the lid open.Visit my blog, dedicated to my Big Green Egg Recipies at http://www.bigtsbge.blogspot.com You can also follow my posts on FaceBook under the name Keep On Eggin' or the link http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Keep-On-Eggin/198049930216241 -
Thank you very much Tony for your quick response. Your "NOTE" was very helpful; we're actually building this bbq area inside a screened-in porch (we live in Va. Beach near an inlet and the mosquitoes are unbelievable...). The backsplash will be up against the screened wall, so I guess we'll be using that latter clearance measurement. Thanks again. mcaren
