Did my first Butt yesterday, approx. 5.5 pounds and it did cook real fast but did settle at the 180 mark for 3 hours thing took almost 11 hours to finally finish but boy was it tasty. We decided to make tacos with the meat. slightly smoked and when mixed with cabbage, salsa, cheese, and avacado I think we all went to heaven. my grandson at 5 years old liked it so much that he actually ate two of them and wanted more. it was a great day. thanks to the forum I had the nerve to take on this adventure. I Have b  een reading about butts since I got my BGE in late March.

Glad your cook turned out good. I my opinion, cooking butts is one of the most rewarding cooks you can do on the egg. It does take a while but the product you get absolutely blows away anything you can buy.

I have four 7.5 pounders on my large right now. Going to feed 30 folks at my brother's 30th birthday party tonight.

Wow thats a long time to wait. I agree it is a satisfiing cook. I got my egg in Novemember. Cooking my second butt today. Its been on 12 hours 182 now. I haven't peeked at it at all. Sure smells good.

I haven't had the nerve to try a brisket yet. If you have any pulled pork left save some for a pizza.
