Cooking on BGE

I have had my large egg for about a month now, 4 cooks.

In my 42 years, I have grilled on everything from the fanciest outdoor kitchens with infrared grills, to cooking a T-bone over a campfire with nothing more than a wire hanger. to Hibachi's, Kettles, countless gassers, etc.

Using the BGE is a true pleasure. I don't have to prove myself with the ability to grill to perfection with just a cheap charcoal grill. I don't have to impress anyone with the latest satinless steel Eight burner gas unit. I don't have to smoke a whole hog on a custom steel offset smoker.

The egg just works, and it works to perfectoin EVERY TIME. Controlling the heat is easy even without a pitminder/guru/doodad. It is the perfect size to grill steaks (delicious ones) for myself, girlfriend, and a few guest. Or Smoke a shoulder or two for a larger group. Or to throw some dogs/burgers on for the kids.

I have been putting the purchase off for a long, long time. It is truly one of the best consumer goods I have ever purchased.

Thanks BIg Green Egg Folks, and thanks to all on the Forum for the terrific ideas.

The BGE costs more than it should... The BGE is worth more than it costs.
Many people say they put off purchasing their first BGE because of the price, but scold themselves for the delay once they've started cooking on it.

Am celebrating my XXth B'day today...Cinco De Mayo. My grown up kids asked what I would like for my special day and since I have been bragging about how much I love my Egg (age about 4 months) I said...a CI grate and a grill extender. Lo and behold guess what showed up in the kid's gift bags. You got it!!! Going to try out the grid this PM with some steaks the Boss is shopping for as we speak.
    Ya'll have a good one.

Well Steve...I hope you enjoy urs on the 7th as much as I did mine on the 5th. It was great to get the whole fam damly together to celebrate. (Got together Yesterday) The only Taures characteristics I identify with are Honesty, Loyalty and[ul] my way [/ul]or the Highway, unless my wife of 42 yrs has other ideas.

Welcome to the club. I'm relatively new (Dec '07) on the egg but sold my old water smoker and weber kettle at a garage sale this weekend and gave my weber gasser away to friends who don't have the means for an egg at this time. I'm officially all egg!

Thanks for the reply (& staying on subject

I also have a Weber Kettle and Gas grill. I am thinking of keeping the Gas grill if nothing more than to flame up some last minute sides or bread as my main event on the egg closes in on finishing task. However, I really don't see a reason to keep the Weber..........kind of hate to see it go, oh well !

Kinda took the words right out of my mouth. Finally a cooker that does it all with the least amount of effort.
