I have a trip to Atlanta coming up in a few weeks. My wife is coming along this time and it's our 19th anniversary. I'm looking for an nice place for dinner a couple of nights. Anyone been to Rathbun's? Any other ideas? Steak, Seafood, Italian all ok.

Thanks

TC

    TC,

I have never been to Rathburn's, but have heard of it.

Personally, a couple of my favorites are "Pano's and Paul's" and "Chop's Lobster Bar" (Chop's is steakhouse... therefore the Lobster Bar is an upscale surf and turf).

  • Never heard of it...
Of course Ruth's Chris is excellent, Maggiano's is one of our favorites, and our personal favorite, is Gordon Biersch, the food is very good, but the beer is awesome. I probably wouldn't recommend it for your anniversary dinner, but if you are looking for a few different places to eat while you are here, highly recommend it. Spondivits is also a good place for seafoof and drinks. Cafe Intermezzo is awesome for deserts and coffee if you are staying close to it.

Yeah, Ruth' s Chris used to be my favorite. However, I went there a couple of weeks ago and it just did not stack up.

I do not know if I am spoiled by the EGG or by other restaurantes.

  • I have been to both Bones and Chops and like them both. I have not been to the Ruth's Chris in Atlanta for a few years because I prefered the other Steakhouses in Atlanta. The Ruth's Chris in Nashville has always been excellent. (I doubt they would let me bring in a little DP Cow LIck

I have read reviews on Rathbun's but don't know anyone who has been there. I was hoping Chef Rathbun would lite an Egg during his appearance on Iron Chef, but at he and his brother did take Bobby Flay down!

I have not been to Pano's and Paul's, but have heard good things about it. Is it mostly seafood?

    Thanks

  • I have been to Gordon Beirsch, the beer is very good. Where are Spondivits and Cafe Intermezzo? We will be downtown.

    Thanks

Kevin Rathbun Steak is a notch above any other steak house I have ever eaten in, and I have eaten at almost any you can name. It is that good. IT is a bit on the tough side to find, tucked in at the end of a street, but worth the search. I strongly recommend the jalapeno creamed corn and the porterhouse.

His first restaurant called Rathbun's is also very good, but the Steakhouse is worth the visit. He even has a pork shoulder appetizer there that is cooked on the BGE.

I do a lot of business dinners here in town, so tell me what kind of food you prefer and I can point you in the right direction.
  • Fidel,

I was hoping you would comment. I was also hoping that someone from the forum had visited Rathbun's. I am looking for a nice place to take my wife for a 19th anniversary dinner. We always like a great steak or seafood. If there is a good northern Italian place, that may be of interest as well. We will probably spend the weekend around Buckhead/Perimeter area and then a few days downtown for a conference. Anything outstanding will be considered. We have been known to plan trips around places we want to eat!

    Thanks in advance

Not a lot of good Italian places here.

If you stay in the perimeter area go to McKendrick's or Ray's on the River.

Buckhead is FULL of great food. Chops, Bones, Panos n Paul's, Hal's, just about anything you want.

If you get up north or have some time while in town, let's get together for lunch of something.

    Great looking setup!

I was planning to stop by the mothership on the way out of town for a cast iron grate and to stock up on lump. I seriously doubt if that will be all I pick up.  Have been thinking about a little brother for my large, but I will probably wait until the Eggtoberfest for that.

Hey,I am pretty sure that the mothership sells DP :woohoo: The invite is open :)

Thanks for the invitation. Between my wife and the Marketing group at work, I have too many people working to fill up my schedule. I do plan to be back over for Eggtoberfest. Will that be as much fun as I think?

If you are looking for a great Northern Italian restaurant, there is a great restaurant called Sugo located in Roswell and Lawrenceville.

I am new to the area, since 1969........ I have seen many come and go. Morton's, Ruth's Chris, are no different here than the other larger metro areas. I have not been to Rathbun's but I'm sure it is great. As mentioned Hal's in Buckhead is one of my favorites (locals) there is a great hidden seafood place on Cobb Pkwy C&S Seafood, not far from the Galeria. I have been there 3 times and never been dissapointed. My favorite steak out is Stoney River two locations they have a great menu with seafood and prime steaks.
Best wishes and have a safe trip

If you are anywhere near Buckhead, my recommendation is the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead. The Dining Room is a superb French restaurant and is one of only 16 Mobil five star restaurants in the US. The service is excellent and the setting romantic - none of the hustle and noise of a typical steakhouse.

An alternative is the Sunday Brunch at the Ritz-Carlton. Do not confuse this with the Sunday Brunch's you have seen at most hotels. This is in an entirely different class. Just my two cents worth. In general steakhouses are for guys and romantic restaurants for the ladies. If you make this night for her, the payoff will be tremendous.
