Kingsford Lump Charcoal

Been trying to find Royal Oak Lump instead of buying BGE lump charcoal from the local dealer and had no luck. The wife went to Sams club to pick up a 3 pack of BBR's and saw Kingsford lump 4 - 5# bags for 20 skins. Anybody try this brand ?? Cost is not a big issue as is the quality of the lump.
Thanks and "War Eagle"

You might like to read my review at the Lump Charcoal Database before buying. It sparks like crazy and leaves gritty ash on the food when you do high temp cooking. The Naked Whiz

Hey Buckdodger,
Why do you want to purchase Royal Oak instead of the BGE lump? -
Wally world in Alex City, Al does not have a clue as to what lump charcaol is. Rats!!!Opelika, Alabama

Like I said in the early of this post...quality is the most important thing....the dealer in my area is pumping up the price of BGE charcoal (it seems) 24 skins /bag. Guess I'll just have to pay the price....Bob
Note to the Rascal...we are in the south central lobobtmy of Alabama half way Between Montgomery and Birmingham . If you venture anywhere into "Gods" country you are welcome to stop by and enjoy the the best lakeside view of the world there is.

Menards normally carries RO lump.

BGE is made by Royal Oak, and I've never been able to see any difference. RO is far cheaper, obviously. The Naked Whiz

For a retired Jet Jockey to a former Special Ops NG type ...I never flew at the speed of sound but I jumped from very slow 'craft that you may remember..the Old Beaver and Otter. Wish I didn't do that 'cause now the old bod is paying the price.
I have a recliner next to my egg for cooks that take more than an hour...and a cooler that is not intended to keep butts warm...if you get my drift.
Have a good one ...BobOpelika, Alabama -
I have read posts that Royal Oak supplis BGE with their lump. Less expensive and the quality is the same...BobOpelika, Alabama

My short experience with Kingsford -- bleh!
I have been buying the store-brand from Whole Foods -- it smells clean, doesn't smoke much, leaves no after taste and burns hot and clean.
Cost is $5+/8.8 lb... occasionally lowered to $4+
I like RO [when I can get American, not SAmerican ], and the price is right.
I like BGE, but Gunness! The color green to print the bag must be expensive ink!

Being on a fixed income...will have to just bite the bullet and get the best. BGE, it seems to last longer and get more leftover coal for the next cookout. Thanks BobOpelika, Alabama

If you get into Birmingham go to The Smoke and Fire Place they sell "Wicked Good Lump". Here is their web site www.smokefireplace.com

Bob - be sure to check out the Naked Whiz' site on lump. Since our Ozark Oak has gone up to $6 per 10#, I'm trying another high rated Best Choice @ $4.59 / 10#.

Thanks for the info "O" I went to the Whiz site and checked out the ratings by users of lump. RO is highly recommended. Also got some leads on where to get RO and Wicked lump. I appreciate the help from all.
