After the dustup of Wed, a week ago, I decided to officially register. I filled out the online form. It stated that an email with final procedures to complete the process would be sent. As it has now been a week, without the email, I tried to register again. Now The forum software informs me that my handle and username are alrealy taken. I assume by me. Any ideas? Or does the process just take a while? Or am I doing something incorrectly?

Possibly the email to you is blocked, check your spam/junk email folder.

If you use AOL, I have read there has been problems with AOL and I am not sure if all that has been sorted out or not.

    Otherwise ping WMK for assistance.

It has been a while but as I recall the email is sent within minutes.

    Kent
  • Thanks, Kent. I checked the spam folder...anyone need a deal on viagra? Nothing there from the forum. I use Yahoo. I guess I'll ping Wmk.

    RVH,

I just tried to send out another confirmation email to the address in your profile. You should receive it by the time you read this post. Let me know if you don't.
  • Nothing yet, sir. Nothing in the spam folder either, except a new offer to "make them scream and beg for more!" Perhaps I typed in the wrong address. My email is:
m-dex_vance at sbcglobal dot net Thanks

    RVH,

That is the same address as is in your profile (I obfuscated it in your message so you wouldn't get a new crop of "make them scream and beg for more" emails :) ).

B.T.W. I once tried clicking "here to enlarge...." -- it didn't work -- don't bother. Got some message saying I was already the maximum safe size ;). How could they know?

Anyway, I'm not sure why your confirmation email is not arriving. I just did a "blacklist" check on our mail server and it came out clean. We did have a problem with AT&T a couple of weeks ago, but we corrected the problem. I'm not aware of a new one, but we'll look into it.

Also, you may now have trouble posting as RVH since you are not yet able to log in and I've just prevented "guests" from posting using an existing handle. You can just change your handle to "guest", or "RVH-HELP", or, something similar to get through.
  • WMK, thanks for the obfuscation. As per your advice I will skip the "click here" buttons....probably get the same result as you did, anyway........
It is always nice to know one has not been blacklisted; my mother will be so proud!
If you could, please try the confirmation email again sometime, as at this point I would like to join the "greens" before the "guests" get banned entirely.
    Thanks again,
RVH- Hey! It looks like you guys are having fun in there...

    RVH,

Just tried it again -- you have mail -- hopefully.

Note: it was not *you* that was blacklisted, it was our server.

    RVH,

According to our mail log, this message was accepted for delivery:

    2008-04-10 17:22:11 [14962] 1Jk4Di-0003tI-HZ => m-dex_vance at sbcglobal dot net F= P= R=lookuphost T=remote_smtp S=1843 H=sbcmx7.prodigy.net [207.115.37.21]:25 C="250 2.0.0 m3ALMCGS019261 Message accepted for delivery" QT=1s DT=0s

If you do not receive it, I'm not sure why -- it could be delayed, then rejected though. But I have no idea why. I've been doing some research; and, from what I can tell AT&T (which now includes sbcglobal.net) basically sucks.

If I were you, and this issue continues, I'd try reporting it to them indicating that if they do not resolve the problem promptly you will find another ISP that cares about their paying customers.

You indicated that you are getting SPAM, just like me, so obviously their blacklist is blocking email that you want while allowing the junk to get through.
  • thanks for trying again, but there is nothing received, and I know you have other things to do.. Maybe you could put a note on your keyboard and try it again in a week or so. Maybe it will go through, then.

    RVH,

See my response to your previous message.

I'm continuing to look into this issue, but you might consider getting another email address (e.g. with gmail) until AT&T gets their act together (an event for which I would not hold my breath).
  • When you stated "We did have a problem with AT&T a couple of weeks ago, But we corrected the problem.", I took that to mean the problem was not of AT&T's origin. I must have misunderstood. Sorry.
  • I will follow your advice. I had no idea that AT&T had such problems. I will look for a neew ISP. Thanks.

    RVH,

We're not sure, but I found quite a few complaints about AT&T customer service and their spam filtering.

I did find a tweak I could make yesterday, so I'm going to try your email address again now. Perhaps it will work this time.

    RVH,

    You still there?

We are working on getting emails through to AT&T customers. Their email filtering is a bit aggressive; and, as I said, form what I've heard, they are not the most responsive folks around w/ regards to customer service (even to their customers, much less to folks like me trying to send email to them). But we'll keep trying. We don't appear to be on any of their "blacklists" at the moment, but still you haven't received anything yet.

I tried to send another earlier today, did you receive it? If not, I'll try again later since we did make another tweak to our server settings -- sometimes these kinds of changes take as much as 48 hours to propagate.

I use bellsouth.net DSL for web access, but I don't use their email servers; so, you don't actually have to get a whole new ISP, you could just get a different email address (e.g. gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc.) But, eventually, I'm sure we can resolve the issue(s) getting our mails through to you -- and, you're not the only one that uses one of the many AT&T owned ISP services; so, it would be of benefit to get this issue(s) worked out.

    Thank you for your patience,
