Memphis based Corky's BBQ
RRP
Posts: 26,453
one year ago the BBQ chain called Corky's based in Memphis opened a restaurant locally. It has now closed already! I tried it once and wasn't impressed in the least, but to be fair I tried it a second time 5 months later. My first impression was confirmed - blah! The manager was quoted saying their type of food must not appeal to our public - oh, you mean overpriced, mediocre food at best? Nope - guess you're right - no appeal!

Ditto (twice). Can only assume their mail order keeps them in business. Surely it isn't people who have visited the Memphis location.

There is (was) a Corky's near me in L'ville...it closed also..

You mean the one on Pleasant Hill Road?
That was open and very popular for about 5 years then business slowed and the closed that location about a year ago.
The ribs were actually very good many years ago, but the quality went downhill over time. Who knows the cause, but apparently the poor quality has followed them elsewhere. -
Yes that is the one. I have lived up in L'vlle for 6 years. It was open for a little while then closed.
BTW Fidel did you get my email? I answered you back yesterday.
I can't check yahoo here at work.
but at least I can get into the BGE forum

When we lived in Memphis, I was able to see what their licensing fees and estimated costs are. It surprises me when a chain like that can make it. It is very expensive just to have the rights to the name.

Haivng grown up in Memphis, I can tell you that the orignial Corky's on Poplar Ave. in Memphis is good. Not great, but good. The other Corky's restaurants that I have been to, including the other Corky's in Memphis, have been extremely subpar in my opinion. Corky's franchises are kinda like Paris Hilton -- no real talent, but famous for being famous.
