Cleaning Egg

I've been cooking on the egg for 5 months and everything has been tasting great until the last couple cooks when I noticed a bad taste in the food. It's hard to explain the taste but it's not good. It's kind of like a dirty, smokey flavor as best I can describe it. Is there a way to clean the inside of the egg? In the past I read something about a burn out but didn't know exactly how to do that either. Any suggestions would be great.

Next cook, after you are done, open the bottom vent and take off the daisy, put in the plate setter and daisy, let the egg hit 600-700 degrees (or more) and cook for about an hour.

(Disclaimer, long high temps may be detrimental to gasket health.)

After it cools, crumple a ball of aluminum foil and scrape the inside of the dome. Remove all the guts of the egg, scrape the rest of the inside of the egg with the foil ball, and hit it with a shop vac. Then reassemble.

I also take an old sheet or drop cloth to lay around the egg because the scraping will make a pretty good mess.

But -- messy as it can be, this technique works!

I clean out my Eggs monthly, before they inside gets too gunky... but I'm just a little OCD...

    ...well... Maybe a lotta OCD...

Thanks. I did it yesterday and it looks almost like a new egg. I'm excited to cook on it again.
