Fire Ring Height in older egg

I lucked into a large egg at an estate sale (I know they weren't an authorized dealer - but at least I didn't buy it off the internet!)
When trying to use a new accessory, I had dome clearance issues. It appears that my fire ring may be taller than those used in the modern eggs (4.5 inches).
I'm wondering if I can solve my problem by just buying a replacement fire ring. Could someone measure the height of their fire ring.
Are there any other issues with an older egg that I should be aware of? My cookbook had a 1996 copyright.
Thanks for your assistance

This is a good question. I was wondering how long the eggs have been produced, and if there have been any model changes over the years. The only thing I noticed is the addition of the spring bands and stainless doors. I don't know about the dimensions or other parts.

Eggtoberfest '06 I bought a 3 tiered rack for my large from the mother ship and had to buy a 2" fire ring for it to fit. My memory says the regular large fire ring is 3". Will check in the AM if not answered by then.
-
Full size fire ring for the large is 4.5" tall.
-
A better question here is what is this new accessory you are trying to use?
-
I was trying to use an Eggaccessory Adjustable Rig.
Tom has been very helpful but the problem seems to be my egg as others haven't had this problem.
That is why I was hoping some experienced egger might be able to help.
I'd really love to be able to use the rig as built. -
Are you trying to use a plate setter with it or not? That rig is designed to use with a spider and a pizza stone as a barrier.

I have an egg I brought back from Japan in 1970. Naturally I'd like to get a new one but this one still cooks and smokes up a storm. I just bought a metal top and a new sliding door since mine is stuck with ashes through the years. The other thing I was thinking of getting is a plate setter.
-
No plate setter. I had it directly on the fire ring. I even took the egg apart to make sure the firebox was flush to the bottom.
The 4.5 inch fire ring ends 3.25 inches below the rim. Apparently, the fire ring ends 4 inches below the rim in a modern egg.
So what is different: the shell, the fire box or the fire ring? -
Let's try a picture...

And we're certain this is a real BGE and not some other brand?
-
Honest to goodness. It came with a BGE cookbook and dealer card.

No offense, but I can put a Jeep Manual in my Tacoma, but it's still a Tacoma.
Does it say Big Green Egg on the cover? Do you know the age? Can we see pictures of the outside? -

Ya know, that 2 inch fire ring might be the answer. I've only had one other problem wihh the Rig fitting and that was a bad dome..........Twww.ceramicgrillstore.com ACGP, Inc.
