Removing Egg Mates/side shelves
Ranbo
Posts: 11
I'm almost finished with my new table for my large egg. The Egg Mates/side shelves where already attached by my dealer. What is the proper way to remove them?
My wife is not a fan of the egg so if I break humpty I'm up the creek without a paddle.

You have to loosen the bans in the back to get the shelves off. Yor are probably going to have to take the bands all the way off. The shelves are screwed from the inside. I don't know if you have the spring assist hinge or the old style. Then you will need to realign the dome with the bottom and retighten the screws on the hinge. Someone will chime in with more information. The most critical thing is to get the screws so tight on the hinge that the screws bend. Good luck, Tom

Without going to all the fuss; it's simple to take the mates off. Unscrew the four nuts on the bands that hold the mates on. Remove the mates; and screw the nuts back on. No need to remove the entire band to remove the studs that hold the mates on.
four nuts, a wrench and you're done.

Yeah, what he said........

can you also attach the eggmates that way too...without having to completely loosen the band, etc. i've got egg mates just sitting in the garage, b/c i really don't want to loosen the band, realign the dome and all that...

In order to attach the mates; you will have to take the bands off. Put four stud bolts in the band; the holes are there. re-align the dome; tighten the bands; put the mates on the stud bolts; tighten the nuts that hold them on. You're done!

Oh yea, I forgot; the mates go on the bottom band.

I was changing from an old hinge to the new spring assist hinge. I'm not sure I would have figured out the easier way you suggested. Good that you chimed in here. Thanks, Tom

This is real easy to do if you have someone to help. Raise the dome, have your helper get behind the egg (on the hinge side) and hold the dome. Loosen the bolt that tightens the bottom band. Have your helper tilt the dome back just enough to remove the studs. Reseat the bottom band, lower the dome and retighten the bolt. I've done this 3 or 4 times and it's easy-peasy.......
