Who cheats with meat tenderizer on steak?

In recent years it seems to me that a lot of the USDA CHOICE meat does not have the flavor that I remember from the past..I have talked to many chefs in restaurants that use a tenderizer with steak related dishes as well having seen it mentioned on some of the Food Network shows. The past three weeks I have put the fork to some rib eyes, porterhouse steak with a touch of that unforgivable ingredient and it does taste better. Is it just me or has any one else tried this tactic?

I tend to stick with the local Costco for the bulk tenderlion and ribeyes so I can cut and wrap to the thickness I want. Never been dissapointed and never used tenderizer. Actually, my brother in law over in Idaho accidently used his Ford F-350 as a tenderizer last year. But the highway between Boise and Tamerack is considered open range so he not only had to pay for his truck but also for the beef he tenderized. All in all, I think he would have been better off going to Costco.

I use Adolph's meat tenderizer without msg on all steaks and most roasts. These were 2 CAB strips for only $5.99 lb. They were outstanding tonight along with some wrapped scallops. Good luck, Tom

I've never used a tenderizer but also realized you can't rely on looks (I'm not that good I guess) Always believed it's a good cut & a good cook and you need both.
Perfect TRex Porterhouse at med rare
And a pretty looking NY Strip tasted like jerky

On my steaks I use Kosher salt, morton nature's seasons, and krogers meat tenderizer both of which have no MSG. Wife will not go out to local steak house would rather stay home and eat mine. :woohoo:

I never use tenderizer. The majority tenderizers have MSG, which I try to avoid. Most packaged sausage as well as some store ground sausages have MSG. I will sometimes marinate my steaks in a vinegar and spice herb blend which will help break down the meat and make it tender.

i don't use meat tenderizer either. but if the reason you don't use it is because it has MSG, you can go back to it. Adolph's has none. Most meat tenderizer is simply papain (enzyme) which break down the meat, rather than enhance flavor.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante

If you want good tasting meat try purchasing direct from a rancher... 1/4,1/2 full cow, it's the way to go!! When you get into, then you can custom order how you want your cow feed... grains, natural grazing.... it's like pre seasoning! lol
Oh I'm sure it helps I live in Alberta famous for amazing steaks !!(ignore that mad cow thing lol)
Meat tenderizer on this site, should be regarded as blasphemy! Thats the basic of why you'd smoke some thing... lower grade meat, slow cooked to tenderize and enhance flavor.
