Mississippi based McAlister's Deli is opening a new restaurant locally clear up here in central Illinois. Any special sandwiches or sides recommended? TIA

I like their baked potatoes, they are huge and the ?ruebans?sp? sandwiches.
  • Most everythingI have tried was good. But my personal favorite is a submarine w/cup of broccli-cheese or country potatoe soup.
  • Is this anything like a Jason's Deli? they are a chain out of Texas that is as close to a East Coast Deli that you can find off of the ocean.
  • They have a few here in Knoxville and I've always been happy with their food. My personal favorite is the 'big nasty', an open face roast beef sandwich smothered in goodies including a brown gravy.

I think my arteries just clogged thinking about one;)

  • I've been to McAllisters about 3 times and Jasons about 3000 times. My memory of McAllisters is that it is a bit better than Jasons. But then maybe I'm just tired of Jasons.

  • We have both reasaurants here. I like Jasons better, but I've only been there 2647 times. So, I'm not quite tired of them yet.

I know the chain well. Started in Oxford Mississippi. They have some great deli sandwiches/Sides/ and soups. No alcohol.
Their largest unit in sales is in Boone North Carolina home to Applachian State.
I think you will enjoy what they have. They are not a find dining restaurant, but a good atmosphere, and offer a valure for the money.
    Just my opinions!

Thanks, Hammer and the rest of you as well. They have taken over the single Fazoli's building in town. Besides interior redecorating and exterior remodeling over several months time I got the impression they were more than a fly by night operation. Sounds like it will fit the need for a luncheon operation and I'm looking forward to it.

    Ron,
I believe that you will enjoy it. Sorry for the bad spelling on a couple of words in an earlier post on McAlisters. I almost bought a franchise several years ago. They have good corporate owners, and a good financial statement.

  • We have one just a mile away or so. Their reubens are pretty good (not as good as Penn Station's...mmmm), but my favorite is something like Beef and Peppers.
