It's time for a new Eggsessory. Well not really and eggsessory, but a handy item for sure. I've seen where lots of Eggheads use a vaccuum sealer device to store food that was cooked on the BGE.

I read a lot of alarming customer reviews about the one I hear most about...Food Saver. Most complaints revolved around poor customer service, and availability of parts.

There's several different manufacturers it seems, but I'm not comfortable venturing there without some advice from this forum.

Anyone feel strongly (positive or negative) about a manufacturer or a certain model?

Thanks in advance.

  • woops! did I violate any forum rules by mentioning a manufacturer name? Sorry if this isn't a good forum topic.
  • check out cabela's.... i have a CG-15 suck and seal i mean vac. bagger....check their website for complete info( there;s a demo video too)...or you can buy one from the manufacturer direct.... their name is "pragotrade" they make 'em for cabelas.... i had one of the harry homeowner models years ago.... it broke after one year and i tossed it due to exactly what concerns you...."butcher and packer" have heavy duty pro models.... pricey!

HAve two Food Savers and the only reason I have the second one is I wanted an additional feature on the new one that I didn't have on the old one. The old one is 4 years old and still works fine.
  • i have a foodsaver brand from costco. [two brand names i might get karmanated]
it works, no problem had it for years. if you buy get the tops that go over mason jars [that's 3]
then save your classico [that's 4] spagetti sauce jars and buy the sealing lids. and you can vacuum pack liquids and stuff with out buying all the bags. i store my nuts vacuum packed in jars in the freezer. sesame seeds too.

Just picked up my Foodsaver last weekend from Costco. I was using the Ziploc handheld, and it's OK...just needed something bigger that didn't run on 6AA Energizer batteries. So far so good. Jeeves showed me his pro-grade vacuum sealer, and it was really nice. Just don't know that I'm prepared to spend that much on a sealing system.

Here is the model he showed me:

Good luck on the search. If the Foodsaver dies in the next year, I'll replace it with one of those units. That thing looked like it belonged in a grocery store deli...
