Ribs....flip or not?

I just put 2 racks of spares on about an hour ago. Cooking indirect with platesetter and drip pan. I usually use a rib rack, but decided to lay these flat on the grid. I have them bone side down, but was wondering when and if I need to flip. How do you guys do it when cooking flat?

I don't flip and have never had any complaints...good luck!

You don't need to flip them, but you might want to move them around after about 3 hours (exchange positions) in case you have some hot spots.
These were not flipped, just moved around one time half-way through a 5.5 hr cook.

Keith, I spritz/flip mine after the first three hours, then every 30 minutes or so afterward until they are done. My prep for spares is St. Louis-style, so there are some trimmings left over which I'll smoke along with the ribs and usually work with those to check for overall flavor/smokiness/doneness (?) The spritz is usually apple products of sorts: apple juice/apple cider vinegar mix (8:1) although the last cook I only did apple juice.
Good luck with the cook, and let us know how they turn out. I don't go with foil for my spares, either, and they've been running anywhere from 5.5-6 hours to finish. -
Thanks guys. I think I may need to cut them in half. The ends are reaching past the platesetter, don't want burnt ends unless it's a brisket.

Let them cook. When I use a rib rack, that is when I flip.

I frequently cut mine in half too, especially if I'm cooking on a medium. But, for future reference, you can "expand" your heat-blocking surface by putting a disposable pizza pan on your platesetter that has a larger diameter than your platesetter (leave room for air flow, though), or you can make one out of tin foil.

I'm planning on spritzing mine too after a few hours. I usually use apple juice and apple cider vinegar. I have all the trimmings on the extended grid cooking away.

I extended my drip pan with foil, but underestimated the size of two racks laying flat.
