I have frozen abalone in the freezer and usually fry it. Has anyone ever cooked it on the Egg? I have cooked it on a Weber before, but it came out OK. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks all...happy cookin' B)

Do not do anything to them other than frying in butter. Trust me.

Abalone is almost like a currency up here - we try not to waste them, but I've had a few "experiments" that were soooo gross that we had to throw them out. It was very sad.

The only thing that works is pounding them out until the muscle breaks down, then frying them in butter until they are partially carmelized.

Now I am going to have to break out my drysuit (in other words, send Brent out to get them) :)

Thanks for the advice. For an alternative way to prepare it, I thought the Egg might produce something magical for abalone. BTW...I usually pound it, dip it in egg, drag it in crushed crackers then fry them in butter. Is your recipe similiar? Thank you.

Last time I had it it was fried in butter and garlic, but yes you beat the crap out of it first.

You can put a cast iron skillet in the egg and then fry it with butter.

Man, Wish I could get some Abalone here in Atlanta!
