Hey everyone,
I just found out that the in-laws are bringing a 15# standing prime rib roast. My oh-so supportive wife has already informed me that, "You better not screw it up". There wasn't much on the archives so any help would be greatly appreciated.

it's prety easy really. don't let the price of the meat (or your wife) scare you. go check out the mad max prime rib recipe...[p]the only way to screw it up is to overcook it.

Dawgtired, I have done 2 Prime Rib Roasts using the Mad Max method and both were outstanding. On the last one, I did not "sear" the meat as recommended, just cooked it and it was fine. We prepared the roast with Kosher Salt and coarse ground pepper and then added a mixture of minced garlic and olive oil under the fat cap and it really added to the flavor on this last one. Just follow MadMax's instructions and you should be fine.[p]Here is a picture of my first try at a Prime Rib. The second had a bit more marbeling and was actually the best of the two.

EagerEgger,[p]Mad Max used the inverted plate technique. Is this required or can one go direct?
