Quantity of pulled pork to prepare

Hi,this is my first post so thanks for reviewing. I am hosting a family gathering Saturday with 12 adults and 5 children. I have one 7 lb pork shoulder I am smoking for pulled pork and wonder if this will be enough? I have a large BGE so can easily prepare two, and am inclined to do so, but wonder what others experience has been. Do I need to prepare two shoulders? Thanks in advance for your help.

Rod Moody,[p]Most often, I've heard that 4 oz. of pulled pork is adequate for one adult sandwich. The yield from an uncooked butt varies. I've read numbers from 50% uncooked to 65%. I did a 10.5 lb. butt this weekend, and had a finished weight just over 7 lbs. You might get anywhere from 3.5 lbs. finished to 4.5. from the butt you have. Worse case, you'd only have 14 sandwiches.[p]I'd do more. It freezes well. Any left-overs will be good for sandwiches, great for chile.[p]gdenby

Rod Moody,[p]I would absolutely do two, and maybe even three. Why not?[p]It will take roughly the same amount of time and lump, and you will have a lot of leftovers which are ALWAYS good to have around.[p]I rarely do a single butt.

Rod Moody, you can plan on 2.4 servings of pulled pork out of each pound of raw butt (or shoulder). On average you can count on 2 servings per male adult (13 and older) and 1 serving for females and males under 13.
