Car Wash Mike,
When I used to make applesauce, I never did grind my apples first. Would slice and cook them...then would mash them either with something like a potato "smasher" or use electirc mixer in a large bowl. Of course, I am sure there is a way to grate them prior to cooking..sorry I could not help with your ?

Ann-sugar magnolia,
I have to grind for the texture I want. Thanks.[p]Mike

Car Wash Mike,
Got me on that one, I have only ground meat. Maybe a food processor would do a better job. You would have to cut them into really small pieces to get them through the grinder. -RP

Randy,[p]I will do both and let you know. I know it has to be raw and not cooked.[p]Mike

Car Wash Mike,
Would chopping them the consistency you want in a food processor do the job? And then hand mix with the meat from the KA.

Richard,
I don't know, I remember when we owned the grocery store, we always ground up the apples. I will try both and post pics later on.[p]Mike

Car Wash Mike,
How about a morter and pestle??

Richard,
The food processor on low and just running a couple seconds at a time, worked real good. Didn't bother grinding any. I think we ground because we made 50lbs. at a time. I have a fattie forming up in the freezer and put on in a few minutes.[p]Mike

Car Wash Mike,
Maybe just use a cheese grater and them give them a rough chop?
