3 lb turkey breast

Unknown
edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
I am cooking my first turkey breast today. It is a 3lb butterball. I was going to coat it with olive oil the put a rub on it. I was going to cook it at 350 for 2 to 2 1/2 hours at 350. Is 350 to high? Am I close on my time? I was going to pull it off at 170 degrees. Any tips?

hoss450,[p]I am about to put on a 4.5 lb turkey breast, bone in. I always take a hint from the package directions. Mine says 325 and that it will take 1.5 hrs to 2.5 hrs for a 4-6 lb. turkey breast. Yours will be done in about an hour or so at 325 - 350. Breast temp should be about 170. It will continue to cook a little even after you take it off. Also, I am doing mine indirect on a v-rack inside of a pan. I'm thinking mine will be done in about 2 hours. Also, if your turkey breast is boneless it might not take as long.

hoss450, I do indirect at 275 for about 21/2-3 hours. I think guys like Dr. BBQ recommend 160 for breast and 170 for thighs. Hey after cooking, wrap in foil and let it rest for about 30 minutes. Good Luck

Ann-Sugar Magnolia,[p]I use two firebricks, which covers a rectangular area down the middle of my medium egg. Haven't gotten around to ordering a place setter yet. Then I take a baking pan that I'm sure can fit with the lid closed, line it with foil and put my v-rack in with turkey breast and set it over the bricks after the temp has stablilized. Today I made a fresh herb butter and shoved it under the skin all over the place, rubbed it with olive oil and coated with coarse ground Dizzy Pig Dizzy Dust. My 4.5 turkey breast took about 2hrs. and 15 minutes. I just had a sandwich a little while ago...my oh my!!
  • SyraQ,
thank you so much for sharing your info with me. Yes, I bet putting that herbed butter under the skin was tasty.Something about I have always liked to cook the "whole bird" and cooked just the breast. Just me..that is all. However, I have been wanting to try a breast and was concerned about it becoming dry. I really appreciate the info. Enjoy that sandwich! yum yum good!
