Painted egg table?

NJKel,[p]If you provide adequate spacing between Egg and wood, there won't be a problem. Light up your Egg to a high temp and hold your hand close - do you think its hot enough to blister paint? [p]BTW, I like your IPE top but its a hard wood to work with.

Thanks Haggis - I am actually waiting to fire her up until I can finish the table, so I wasn't sure just hot hot the outside would get. I'll make sure I don't put it too close to the legs and use the recommended diameter hole so my tabletop isn't too close.[p]I'm already expecting that cutting the hole in the IPE decking will be the hardest part, trying to figure out the best tool/method of making a clean cut! The IPE is incredibly hard.

NJKel,
Ipe is great, at first I thought you were going to say you were going to paint it and almost gagged ;0)[p]A jigsaw will cut it just fine, just use a new blade. Might have to pitch the blade when you're done though - but at least they're cheap. A carbide roundover bit with the router will smooth the edges over well too. [p]At least you won't have to worry about how it ages![p]Like others have said, paint should hold fine as long as there is a decent gap.

Thanks guys,[p]I finished building the frame today (Well, still plugging some of the screw holes.)[p]I notched one of the four boards that will need notching on the bottom shelf and my miter saw and jigsaw did a fine job cutting 'em.[p]The IPE will get Cabot's australian timber oil.[p]I assembled the egg today and roasted some corn as the first cook - it doesn't get as hot outside as I thought it might, so I think paint will do fine!
