scallops

I would like to try some scallops on the BGE. I have no idea how to cook these. I was thinking on foil with some butter and garlic salt at aound 350 for maybe 10-15 minutes. Any help on time, temp, and seasoning would be appreciated. Thanks

  • hoss450,
I've not tried foiling, but it would probably work. I use a fine-mesh tray that was designed to grill veggies or fish. You can get them almost anywhere. As to temp and time. I would say direct heat 250-275 about five minutes on a side. It doesn't take scallops long at all. [p]Let's see what others say here.[p]

  • hoss450,
i like to wrap em in a slice of thin prociutto, a light brush of melted butter and lite seasoning of something like dizzy raging river (i'll be shaking the tree would be great also)....then grill em direct at around 350 - 400 doem temp for a couple of minutes per side until the prociutto starts to crisp up a little ...[p]good stuff. .. .

mad max beyond eggdome, a smidge of Ragin River is a good match with scallops. I cook 'em in a hot pan or on an oiled grid. Good stuff.

hoss450,
if they are good fresh scollops i like them wrapped with thin partially cooked bacon and cooked raised grill in a pan at 375 or hiher. til they just turn solid white in color. i like the raw side of done better than slightly over cooked. i use a paella pan but pan would work. i like them without spice, some squeezed lemon is good

hoss450,
depends on how big your scallops are. i get the sea scallops that are pretty big. you could eat them raw actually, so they don't take long at all. [p]i usually wrap in bacon and when the bacon is done, the scallop is done.

  • hoss450,
I love scallops!! The best way to do them IMHO is on a Alder wood Plank. Soak your plank for at least 1 hour, longer if you can. I use a combination of Garilc and Bad Byrons Butt Rub on my scallops. Pre-heat your egg to about 325, steady your temp then place your empty plank on the Egg, close Egg. After about 5 minutes flip the plank and let it go for about 5-7 more minutes. When you open you egg, the plank should be smoking/ steaming. This is the time to put your scallops on. Brush plank lightly with olive oil, place your scallops on plank, close egg and cook 10-15 minutes depending on your preference of doneness. They end up with a lovely smoky flavor. No matter how many I do at one time there has still never been enough, everyone still wants more.
    Good luck!!
