We press our Vitamix into service very regularly, and soup is likely the item we make most. Standard approach is to roast veggies, garlic and onion in big chunks, and throw into the blender with some stock. Like 6 minutes later, you have a beautiful, piping hot soup (the friction of the blades heats it). I often add cottage cheese for protein and richness. Great way to ensure great veggie uptake.

Haven’t noticed it being louder since the SS vessel, though I have a decibel meter and could measure.

Hot smoothie! Great idea to roast veggie first, I didn't like the demo samples because I could taste the 'raw'.

Great way to use up surplus veggie too! Stealing the idea but will use a hand blender and heat up almost instantly on the full sized induction...faster, easier cleanup and don't need ear protection  ;)

Not sure on this point. To clean the Vitamix, we throw some dish soap and about two cups water into the unit and hit the “clean button”. Less than seconds later and it’s done.

Vitamix soups have been a game changer. Great, healthy weeknight meal.

I'm frugal, cleanup includes scraping off every last bit of smoothie goodness stuck to the container, before throwing in soap and water  =)

clean button? I guess that came in after my model (Model VM0103 per the back label, or VitaMix 5000 per the front).

I know the model you mention because I’ve owned that one in the past. Some models have presets and others don’t, but they can all achieve the same  results. My current one - an Ascent something or other, has some presets, including soup, the clean function and others. Handy, but not strictly necessary.

I don't think I'll replace my model with a newer one - we like Parmesan too much.

Stumbled upon this at an Amazoid returns liquidator for $3, Inkbird ITC-308 Wifi. Already have one for wine making, thinking of using this as a freezer alarm but wondering if the probe cable can mess up the freezer door gasket.

where I work we have monitors external to the -80C and -40C freezers with the cable running into the freezer through the door. does not seem to affect the working of the gasket as the freezers still maintain their set point.

I can't really just the size of the Inkbird probe cable from that picture so I don't know how it compares to the cable for our sensors, but it looks to be a similar size.

im thinking it would work better on the hinge side so the door stays closed better. simple enough to test. some soft foam on both sides top and bottom where the wire goes thru might help the gasket seal better. mines a 1970's vintage, i would just drill a hole, insert wire, some silicone to seal =)

Just put the probe in when you need to check the temp like a meat thermometer. It'll stay plenty cold.

Thanks all for chiming in. I tried wrapping the cable in soft foam but it was kind of finicky, may try gluing the foam to the door frame or gasket. Doesn't look too bad without the foam though, so I may not bother. OTOH, I'm also thinking perhaps cutting a slit/channel in the gasket may work better.
@zaphod, the cable is 1/8" diameter.
@fishlessman, great suggestion re hinge side, that way it stays out of the way.

I'll take a look at the physical placement when I'm back in the centre on Monday, but I think the external part is mounted on the side of the freezer to minimize the gap you are seeing.  1/8" seems to be about the size of our cables.

Thanks @zaphod. Agree, the cable should be perpendicular to the gasket.

  • If you put some gorilla tape over the wire it might help smooth the transition

  • Also try it closer to the hinge possibly in the corner because the hinge will hold pressure on the seal

Got my Covid/flu jabs this afternoon, and also needed to pick up some other medicine, yet another replacement pair of reading glasses, and some refreshments.
Found a pair of reading glasses, full metal frame, +1.75 strength, for $13.  Then I noticed they also sold a 3-pack, same model, for only $5 more!  Was pretty happy about noticing that (I keep a pair of reading glasses in both vehicles and strategic spots throughout my house, and break them often (note my specific requirements above)).  Final price out the door was $68.
When I got home, I noted the stack of coupons stapled together by the pharmacy, and right on top were two 20%-off coupons which expire in 14 days (one of 'em would've saved me over $15 today, sigh); I tried to think of anything else I need that Walgreens carries but am stumped, so my semi-high just turned into a semi-low.

When I signed in for the shots I mentioned to the pharmacist that my Dr had sent in my COVID "prescription" that morning, and he went off on a rant that had me nodding in approval.  Wondering, how many here also have to get a "prescription" for a COVID shot?  (I believe it's controlled by the states, for now)  Thanks, rfk Jr!  :anguished:

I'm not sure.  As I mentioned in the first post, I also picked up "other medicine, yet another replacement pair of reading glasses, and some refreshments", which I paid for at the front cashier; there was no charge from the pharmacy.  BUT, for the second time I forgot I'm now on Medicare (and forgot to tell Walgreens), so I'm not sure if they'll pay for the shots, if my BCBS will, or nobody will.

Thankfully got in before CDC overruled States Rights - nurse practicing just asked “asthma?” - I said “yup” - she said cool, then jabbed me.

Replacing this 2008 GE over the range Microwave which has had two magnetron replacements since we bought it. This was a 36" wide unit that is no longer being manufactured.
Had to buy a filler kit to fit the openings that will be on both sides of the new unit. Having the microwave installed next week.

I'm glad that the original homeowner sprung for an actual hood vent at my house. No microwave is going to last the lifespan of the house especially over frying bacon.

is there a difference that a $132 ironing board gives me over a $32 ironing board? I'll never know.
