NEW Rotisserie!

Ok…it’s been a while since we started talking about this and BGE Team Green was “sworn to secrecy”….kind of…at least posting about it. But today BGE “launched” the new Rotisserie, so here’s my two cents.

I’ve had the opportunity to cook with it a couple of times. Personally, I really like it. It comes in a semi-hard case which is a lot easier to store than the old HUGE ring. It’s powered by an AC adapter and you can also plug it in to a battery with the USB C cable!

The LG is available in store now, and the XL is coming in Nov.

Great idea, but I’m concerned about leakage around that band now?

    Thanks @cmac610 some nice pics.

@MaskedMarvel this was a concern raised on this side of the pond, specifically relate to temperature control. Personally I think that temp control wouldn't be an issue with a small gap, however smoke leakage might be. When I rotisserie a chicken, there's quite a bit of smoke generated by the fat dropping onto the coals, when the LetzQ isn't quite aligned and there's a very small air gap I do get a fair amount of smoke. I think a bigger gap could lead to more smoke.

It’s there, but it’s minimal. And a couple of the cooks were done with the lid open the whole cook anyway.

I've been using the Komodo Joe version, and you can't get it below 350. This seems like it would have a similar gap or less. I can't think of anything I'd want to cook on it below 350.

BOLO patent pending release of shag carpet inspired gasket

it does look like this would have less air gap around the spit than the wedge rotisseries

True. Rotisserie’s aren’t supposed to be low and slow anyway.

“Gasket burn” shouldn’t be n issue as when you cook on rotisseries, you’re not filling the fire bowl up to the top with charcoal. In fact, I normally use the basket divider or pile some lump up near that back of the bowl, so I’ve never had flames “licking” the gasket.

I'll be trying real hard not to purchase both. Within 10 uses of the komodo joe one I snagged one of the tabs the motor mounts to on the ring with a ladder and pulled a little too hard out of frustration. It's cast aluminum or something and snapped right off. It still works, but I won't miss the ring.

that’s cool-  i definitely think this is a better approach. the shag carpet joke was about the pitfalls of “‘airtight or bust” line of thinking. absurd outcome like shag carpet strands wrapping around the spit or something. if absolutely airtight was required then we would see sealed bearings in the sides of various wedge models.

Bloody heck. It's £250 over here, or CDN$468. And that's with the tax.

Yup, CDN$565 +13% tax.  Interestingly, the 1.0 version is selling for the same price.

Curious mind wants to know, what size and what $?
FWIW Crappy Tire in Surrey (Newton) has 8kg Maple Leaf for $26.99.  In my neck of the woods Rona sells the same bag for $19.69.

yep, $27 seems familiar. Before I malign the BGE pricing at the dealer for an 8kg bag of Oak/Hickory , I'm going to confirm the price I paid (no, I did not keep the receipt I just tapped and zoomed as I was late). I'll get back to this.

…and the low low price of $8 mass-rotisseried chickens really hoses the ROI / IRR.

inverse of the math where we say “why pay $50+ for a restaurant steak that i can egg better at home for half and save on alcohol and uber too”

just checked and I was not maligning the dealer, their current price for a bag of Oak and Hickory is $54.99. New shipment last week so that is current pricing. Double the Maple Leaf at CTC.  Still 39.99 online at www.biggreenegg.ca

going to have to rethink that pricing.

That is a legit improvement!!  Love it.  The huge wedge is a big pain to store.  I always forget where I stashed it too, because I don’t have anywhere convenient that it fits.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

not anymore.  Fortunately I like the Maple Leaf just as much if not more.

Or I order online. See how the bumps and bangs take care of it.  I want to support my local brick and mortar, but a 38% markup is more support than I can afford.

I'm also going to check some of the other local stores to see if they are all at the same price.

Speaking of ROI, here's my summer crop of carrots, highly doubt the total yield will exceed 10lb. Meanwhile, local grocery stores are selling 10lb bag of carrots for $3, go figure.  The leaves are priceless though  ;)

finely chopped horsradish leaves in that...i bet it would be good. i need something to do with it, planted a piece from the supermarket years ago  and it now pops up everywhere, the leaves are good on fish though.....it would grow where you are, plant a piece in the neighbors yard so you always have some =)
