Hatch are here!

The hatch peppers are just starting to show up in our local grocery! I have a busy day tomorrow so this afternoon I smoked a load of s&p chicken 250° over hickory and roasted a couple pounds of hatch. Had some of the smoked chicken legs with salad for dinner. Peeled the skin off the hatch and removed the seeds. Stuffed them with a mixture of the remaining chicken, cheese, cumin, and a can of tomatoes and peppers. Topped with a lot of cheese on one side for my DH who thinks he can never have enough cheese. It will just bake until heated through and served for dinner tomorrow with some refried beans and tortillas and salsa.

:)   A favorite time of year!  This Norwegian/German gringo was stationed in NM for five years, been buying a roasted bushel every year since (when I could).

Agreed @botch I’m glad nobody saw me happy dance when I found them on the shelf.

@BeanHead -  I am enjoying your low temp direct cooks.  I am slowly transitioning more in that direction as I go indirect out of habit too many times. You are correct in that you get more flavour (nod) direct than with the blocking heat deflector.  Always game to try something new.

Here's to the hatch peppers once again arriving in flyover country soon.  Always a fun time to roast and inhale.

  • They roast them at our HEB's here.  We always buy at least a case then divide them up and freeze them for use.

The best Anaheim peppers anywhere!  Absolutely love them - love that they have been kept safe from Texas A&M GMO’ing all
the heat and flavor out of them!!

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

@BeanHead you won't need to ask at HEB, they'll be doing it right out front on weekends and most afternoons.  You smell it when you get out of your car.

Well…. @Legume my antisocial a$$ is in and out of HEB before 7:15 when I shop (I would be earlier but in our county we can’t pay for beer or wine before 7am 🤷‍♀️). And @lousubcap I am not gonna get in a GMO war here on the forum… but my first love was a then classified experiment in GMO animal modification so I’m pretty sure I’m gonna keep eating what I am served 🤣

I don't think GMO is a big problem for anyone here, it's certainly a lot more pervasive than people realize. I think the swipe was at the aggies feeling the need to tame...jalapeños.  I guess I could see it if it was a northern school, but aggies.
