Just used the Smobot for the first time today.
After using several temp controllers the Smobot was very easy to set up and once I dialed in the bottom vent held the temperatures well.

Smobot is legit - glad it worked well for you!

I just throw the bottom vent halfway open and it has never failed at any temp. Great product.

I was always curious about keeping the top vents clean? My DFMTs jam up constantly. I just chuck them in the coals when closing the BGE up. Isn’t that going to happen to the SMOBOT?

Not really. After time, you can have enough gunk there to stick the louvers, but if that happens, just stick the point of a knife between them and it will immediately be freed. Or just wait a bit and the heat from below will soften the gunk and free it up.

I've usually had to disassemble mine once a year or so to scrub the gunk off the surfaces.
WARNING: there is an incredibly small washer somewhere on the short pivot bolt, it stuck to something the first time I disassembled it, came loose as I was scrubbing everything in the sink, and didn't notice it until I drained the soapy water out of the sink, fortunately it was resting off to the side, not over the drain; otherwise I would've lost it and been none the wiser.
