Is ACE discontinuing the BGE?

Help!  My local ACE is discontinuing the BGE and only has a few odds and ends to sell.  It would appear that other ACE dealers here in Central WI are doing the same.  Does anyone know what is going on?

The Minneapolis area seems to still be carrying them.  Not sure on the Wisc aspect.

I can't answer, but I know there is an ACE in town that has a small retail footprint and they too discontinued, but will order whatever you want. Did you speak with the store owner/manager?

My local Ace stopped carrying.  The Ace flyers that come in the mail heavily feature/push BGE.  Another Ace hardware near me has a HUGE selection of everything BGE.

I believe the Ace stores are franchised dealerships so they might have some latitude on some items they carry. My local has a large selection of accessories and other brands like Weber, Traeger, etc.

They don’t usually get to sell you a new Egg every 2 or 3 years. Some of our members excepted.

Ace has a huge catalog of BBQ grills, smokers, accessories, etc for their store owners to choose from.  There's a recommendation that they carry certain brands, but it's up to the store what they actually want to have on the floor.  As a former dealer, I can tell you BGE has a huge carrying cost and floor space dedication, so if you're not selling them regularly, you're losing money from the opportunity cost of what else could be sitting there.

Maybe Ace should hire a BGE social media influencer.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

I do the demo cooks for a local ace franchise with 4 stores.  All of their stores have a large BGE footprint.  I’ve often wondered how lucrative it is.  They do not have any sales people who understand the product.  They also have a large Blackstone footprint.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Given how pitiful the warranty process is with most dealers, probably not very lucrative.

No local Eggfests, no local Egg demonstrations. The Red Egg on the other hand had a cooking demonstration a couple or 3 years ago. He wasn’t the most skilled that I have seen though.

I fear something is not going well.  Does everyone who wants an BGE already have one?

From what I've seen, they sell way more Traegers than BGEs, so I'm not at all surprised. But even if a store stops carrying them, surely they could still order one for you?
Cincinnati, Ohio. Large BGE since 2011. Still learning.

The BBQ blitz from summer of 2020 is long gone.  Trump bucks + people stuck at home resulted in everyone that didn't have a BBQ or smoker, bought one that summer.  They played with it through 2021-22 and in August 2022, the BBQ world came to a screeching halt.  It still hasnt come back to where it was in 2019....well prior to the panic buy of 2020.

That's the problem with selling BGEs or any kamado, no planned obsolescence (or any obsolescence for that matter.)  You gotta win over a new customer every time and there are only so many people that are going to drop $1500+ on one, especially in the economy of the last few years.

BBQ will come back, but I don't know if it's gonna swing back to kamados.  Stick burners were a thing for a while, then pellets were a thing, lately it was griddles, not sure what it's gonna be next, but I doubt kamados.

I think third party food delivery services are also a backyard BBQ killer.....they got a lot of traction as every restaurant pivoted to delivery using them.  Also the BBQ competition reality shows for people in too, just like the house flipping ones.  And worse  now it's too easy for the younger generation to just order anything and have it at their door in no time.  Home cooking isn't really a thing, and the economy really tanking combined with lower food prices is about the only thing that will bring it back.

There are 10 ceramic cooker brands that I help people with. Tonight I just heard from owners of two more brands, which to me sound and look like Johnny Come Alongs proving that China has invaded our shores with vengeance! No question that BGE has competition and I'd say some of it is quite fierce but with cheap products, and probably no strong warranty support standing behind them.

I'm starting on 18th year on my large and small BGE, so not one of the excepted ones.  I bought those for the quality and long term.

Four here so at my ripe old age I'm not in the market for another. Just the same I was happy to have arrived to Eggdom via the golden heydays of the independent mom and pop BGE dealers who knew the product and passed that love along to us buyers, plus had eggfests large and small clear across the country!

100 years ago my first EGG was from America Airlines Miles and was a SMALL delivered to house. Then the internet no warranty killed all that.

I have noticed my local Ace dealer in Salado, TX has went from a large footprint to a very small footprint with other brands taking space. But my Ace dealer (new store) in Santa Rosa Beach, FL has a huge footprint for Eggs and really doing an Egg business.
Salado TX & 30A  FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

Did you get in on the retroactive registration grace period on that? It worked in all my old BGEs..

That would be a NO. Did not know anything about it. That one is long gone. But i have 6 in three different cities and no way in hell could i prove i have warranty on any of them.

THANK YOU. Of six only 1 registered.
Will look into it. Will one was given to me last month (MINI) so that can’t count.
But the other 4 came from really old Austin EggFests and my own Salado EggFests. I don’t think they were ever registered.

Thinking back 12/16 years ago the way the demos were sold I’m doubtful many were really registered. Plus who keeps receipts? Wow we should have done a much better job.
Where Austin had probably a 100 or so DEMOs we at Salado probably 30+ a year still it was up to the supplying dealer to do it i still don’t remember it getting done.
I do remember years ago after one of the 4 Fests Leroy and I did i called Ace or the Distributor and got something covered maybe 3 or 4 times. Betting much easier in those days.
    Yep I’m rambling, sorry
