The only way for weak folks like me is to dismantle, move base into new nest and rebuild.
Remember to get rid of the pesky vinyl caps first assuming the new nest still has them, too many horror stories...

The hell you say! I mean what the hell won’t turn?
Best way is to take the guts out and the if you are strong just reach down inside stick your hand through the bottom vent from the inside and lift it out and over to the new. Otherwise remove the dome will make the transfer easier.

make sure you use a work glove when grabbing that lower vent, it is sharp and it will cut. i wouldnt do it unless the guts are removed and the dome is off and i had extra handsfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

i envision the nest tipping over while trying to do this myself. thinking laying the base on its side on the grass, slipping the nest on, strapping it in, and two people standing it up is a better option. a third person will only help.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
You’ll need to phone a friend for this one or you might be devastated.

For sure ... take the egg apart. And as others have stated, use it as an opportunity to refurbish ... including gasket change.Napoleon Prestige Pro 665, XL BGE, Lots of time for BBQ!

I'm in the same boat, but I have to swap in a replacement base, so I'll have to take it apart anyway which should make it manageable. Possibly new hinges as well. When I brought mine home it was already assembled, but not in the nest. My kids were in HS playing football and thankfully they had some of them over the day I brought it home - a couple of linemen made it happen.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

Even if it's just the base and you have help, I wouldn't 'lift it out and over to the new' in a single step. Easier and safer to do it in three steps:RRP said:The hell you say! I mean what the hell won’t turn?

1) Lift and rest the bottom on a stand (e.g. picnic table?)
2) Have a beer
3) Lift and drop into the new nestcanuckland -

I've done this a few times; always with a friend.
1. Remove everything inside, leaving only the dome and base.
2. Run a strong ratchet strap up through the bottom vent and out of the top vent. I typically place a couple old rags between the strap and the ceramic at both top and bottom entry points.
3. Run the "hook end" of ratchet strap between handle and dome/base and connect to the hook on ratcheting end.
4. Grab some old rags to create a cushion between the ratchet strap's metal parts and ceramic, then GENTLY cinch down. This is just to provide stability and keep lid from flopping open.
Person in front of egg places a gloved hand in bottom vent and the other in top vent to steady.
Person in back of egg places bottom hand under base and top hand in top vent (if it will fit).
I've also "rolled the dice" and lifted from the thick metal on the back of the hinge, but only after snugging down all band/hinge hardware. *NOT RECOMMENDED*
It's also helpful to have a third person (or some strategically placed boards/pavers to prevent the new nest from rolling or shifting as you place the egg in its new home.Indianapolis, IN -
When I brought my new Large home, next-door neighbor and I lifted it that way out of my truck and into the nest; the bottom slipped out of the band but it was still over the tailgate, we caught it in time. Could've been... devastating.jones2289 said:I've also "rolled the dice" and lifted from the thick metal on the back of the hinge, but only after snugging down all band/hinge hardware.“The best way to execute french cooking is to get good and loaded and whack the hell out of a chicken."

Agree 100%. In hindsight, edited my OP to discourage anyone from doing this.Botch said:When I brought my new Large home, next-door neighbor and I lifted it that way out of my truck and into the nest; the bottom slipped out of the band but it was still over the tailgate, we caught it in time. Your post gave me a chuckle, even if unintended. Haven't thought about the old Devastated thread in a long time.
In all seriousness, you're right - lifting by the handle or band is definitely risky and shouldn't be relied upon.Indianapolis, IN -

I wonder if a cheap engine mount, like the one from Harbor Freight I've got, would do it. I'd use a double set of straps around the egg, one set to lift it partway and the other set the rest of the way after you can get the second set inside the old Nest.If you don't want to buy a hoist, you should be able to rent one.Somewhere on the Colorado Front Range

When I did this with my XL I took off the dome and removed the guts and lifted it with my husband up into our tailgate to rest a sec and moved the new nest underneath. This kept us from trying to move one to the other and risk being tippy. Wish I had used the opportunity to replace the gasket as suggested above. Also I have misplaced one of the spacers, if you don’t have yours still… check with your local dealer for some before you reset the band, my band took a little swearing to get in place.
