That is a good price for getting in the lower 48 especially if you have free shipping.  I need to take advantage of that offer especially before the tariff rodeo gets into high gear.    Thanks.
    Edit: Ordered.

  • Great lump. Can’t see the link you included.

Think it’s about 18 loonies here at Costco now. Not long ago, it was $13.99.

This thread sent me down the rabbit hole for Maple Leaf Lump in the lower 48.  Found it at a decent price until the shipping was included.  I have not had enough rocket fuel to pull the trigger, especially with the Basques deal above.  I consider that a personal win.

  • I’ve always found Basques and Maple Leaf very similar - both exceptional, IMO.

Some time ago, @Canugghead alerted me to a great deal on Maple Leaf and I still have a good stockpile. Proof that I’m not Egging enough.

I was gifted a bag of Maple Leaf from @CTMike last year.  (What a treat-I was and am not worthy but I sure enjoyed cooking with it.)
Anyhow, I found it to burn noticeably hotter for a given vent setting than Rockwood or Basques.  Small sample size but the performance was consistent.
Any of you heavy Canadian lump burners have any comments?

I haven't finished my ML either, use the pellet cookers more often.

Just did a quick check, it appears Rona has the best price at $19.69 for 8 Kg.  Crappy Tire $27, Nella $23, BMR $24. Watch for Rona sale around July 1, sign up for their newsletter and you can get $10 off first order over $50 IIRC.

EDIT: It appears all GTA stores are out of stock. Ottawa-Hull has 54 bags!

Just wondering out loud here...OK? We all know that rough handling of lump bags by shipping personnel can turn  a bag in to abused merchandise of broken pieces covered with dust. Now, after THAT cold water opinion I wonder if a prospective buyer needs to consider just how far his order is going to be shipped?

Not to bash Canadian Maple but I am fortunate enough to live close to US production here is Missouri. Rockwood and of late been using Blue Hog , both manufactured in state. Both very good quality !

maple leaf smells better burning than basque.  different note, the description on the basque sugar maple link lists plastic as the material...... =)
