Frozen 9# pork shoulder butt

the local market had them on sale plus 50% off due to the sell by date it only cost me $10 each. Normally I get Boston butt at BJs and don't freeze, guessing pork shoulder butt is the same as Boston butt?

How long should I expect it to defrost in the freezer?  For $10 couldn't pass it up but need to cook as soon as defrosted?

If you're going to make pulled pork I'd do it mostly still frozen because it would be a spur of the moment thing. I just let the outside thaw enough for seasoning to stick, put it on the grill, put the probe in once it's been on long enough to make it easy enough to insert.

As for a pork shoulder vs a pork butt...a pork shoulder just means you are eating higher up on the hog! =)

I was thinking of slicing it

put it in water to thaw some for seasoning to stay. Then while still partly frozen put it on at 200F til it thaws through then raise to 275-300 and cook to about 190.   if you normally wrap do it and if not just cook.   It will slice well at about 190.  Michael Simon has a teaching video on Food network on doing one in oven.  Sliced pork but
