This is how I ended up with the Smokeware cap. I never had a problem with the Daisy top, but I used it for the Smobot. You can still move the Smobot regulator manually if you like to control without plugging into the Smobot. But for several reasons, I don’t like doing that, so I now have the daisy for Smobot cooks and Smokeware for all others.alaskanassasin said:I’m on the hunt for a daisy, I sacrificed mine for the smobot.Memphis, TN

I decided to replace my Smokeware(bought it when they first came out) with the daisy Friday night for a pork butt cook. I decided to do it because of this thread and also I like the looks of it. It worked flawlessly. I like having the ceramic cap in it. Looks good. While I have some desire to buy the new cap, I don’t see the point. I have cooked in the rain with the daisy on and it performed well. No issues.Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito.

Have used the reggulator for about 4 years now. Consistent build up of gunk. Had smoke leaking from under the cap at first solved with gasket material. Thankfully saved my daisy wheel and am back to that after having to beat the reggulator in order to free it for each cook. Just not worth the hastle.

I've used many, including Smokeware, but didn't really care for the others.
So I've settled on just two.
For short cooks I like the daisy wheel best, and for long cooks I'm sold on the Smobot.Cincinnati, Ohio. Large BGE since 2011. Still learning. -
Are they all the same size? I'll ship you one.alaskanassasin said:I’m on the hunt for a daisy, I sacrificed mine for the smobot.Large, Medium, MiniMax, 36" Blackstone

Yo! I’ll trade you for my reggulator if it fits. I am not around to measure my large diameter but lll pm you. Thanks !kl8ton said:

You know Easy Off oven cleaner makes quick work of cleaning off that build up of creosote. Just a couple layers of newspaper is enough to prevent overspray and doing it outside is a must.MoOzarkEgg said:Have used the reggulator for about 4 years now. Consistent build up of gunk. Mine was tight out of the box, I don’t think I could ever make an adjustment one handed. (Don’t read this @kl8ton)RRP said:

I think I tried to loosen the screw holding the cap on but it was clearly glued in, not meant to be adjustedSouth of Columbus, Ohio.

I have the smokeware caps. I don't need a replacement. I will check if I have my large daisy any more but I'll look. I know I have my medium one.alaskanassasin said:

I got a rain cap because I live in the pacific NW, the then I learned that I really hate standing in the rain. go figure.
But the rain cap makes a fine spot to keep baste warm in the cold months. just don't forget it before you lift the lid. I also find that the rain cap spreads out the heat so you don't get a blast straight up from the egg, the heat just kind of spreads about.

They probably used a common thread lock adhesive such as Loctite which can be released by heating that machine screw to 500º using a torch. I mean it's worth the try if you want to.alaskanassasin said:I think I tried to loosen the screw holding the cap on but it was clearly glued in, not meant to be adjustedRe-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
I agree, I could have done that but I wanted to use it the way it was designed before getting out the torches. Honestly it’s not a huge deal I usually run the smobot on any long cooks (works flawlessly btw) and no cap for any short cooks.RRP said:

I’m probably overthinking it but we are on a Bge forum.I feel like Bge corporate was like “hey, make a adjustable cap any idiot can figure out, we are only selling $1,000 kamados to people who like to put a little extra effort and thought into their cooking.” All that to say, frankly I am insulted by the reggulator, even if it did cooperate. Don’t get me started on the dumb looking useless rain cap.South of Columbus, Ohio. -
I gave mine away after buying the new Top as I wanted the rain protection.
Realized a year later that the Regulator doesnt shut completely- harder to control temps and takes HOURS to shut down the fire.
Anyway the guy I gave it to gave it back as he had another.XLBGE, LBGE, Charbroil Gas Grill, Weber Q200, Old Weber Kettle, Rectec RT-B380, Yeti 65, Yeti Hopper 20, RTIC 20, RTIC 20 Soft Side - Too many drinkware vessels to mention.

Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting. The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president.
