having trouble finding maple leaf

out here on the left coast of Canada, ML lump is at Canadian Tire. Rona sells it out east, but not out west. Being end of season a lot of CT stores have stock listed, but no inventory. The stock is wrong because end of year is when they learn that the broken bags did not get taken off the count. It took me 4 stores to find two bags and by that time "you see sir, bags of charcoal are very delicate so we have a lot of breakage" was getting old.

and don't call me sir.

So if you are a ML lump fan, now is the time to stock up. just not near me please :)

    Last summer, the legendary @Canugghead had flagged a great sale of ML 8KG bags at BMR. 5 bags amounted to $84.58 ($16.92/bag) shipped, including tax. Not sure if they ship across the country, but you could check.

    Edit: When I tried to put them in my cart just now, they instead directed me to a store locator, so maybe they won’t ship at present.

    BMR's regular price jumped from 19.99 to 21.98! When we bought it was on sale, plus $10 for email signup, plus free shipping. They shipped to Ontario but not Western Canada. I've checked a few times since and noticed too they no longer offer shipping option. 

    Just checked local crappy tires out of curiosity, the four stores near me have 15, 5, 1 and 17 bags in stock respectively, from closest to farthest. Interestingly they dropped the price from 29.99 to 26.99

    I know you’re asking about ML, but Basque’s Nature’s Own Sugar Maple (which you’ve probably had) is pretty clutch and, to me, is very similar to ML. Widely available at Costcos in my area.

    checked in person/phone? I went to three before I started to let my fingers do the walking. Finally found three bags (online said they had 5). Took 2, I always try to leave some for someone else.

    I emailed Basques a few times, but never got an answer. Costco's out here sell eXTRa brand (another from La belle province) which I tried a couple of bags, but I never really liked it. I'd really like to try Basque's but have not had a lot of luck finding it. C'est la vie.


    I live about 15 minutes from the US border, line ups are killer all the time since Covid, but maybe the charcoal gods are hinting I need to visit Ace and try out Rockwood.

    You know you married right, when at 8pm you can casually say to SWMBO " @Photo Egg called, and said he picked up 200lbs of lump for me. I'm going to go get it."

    And,
    1. She knows you really are going to pick up charcoal vs. heading to a strip club, or having an affair. 
    2. Didn't bat an eyelid when she heard "200 lbs."
    3. You know she has already started plotting her revenge.
