Does anyone ever use Dutch Ovens on their Egg? That may be a stupid question. Where is a good place to get a Dutch oven (6 or 8 qt.)?

Ref1515,[p]Yup, I use a Lodge "Logic" pre-seasoned cast iron Dutch oven. Works great, although a bit harder to clean than an enamel coated one.[p]gdenby

Ref1515,[p] never used a dutch oven in my life.. HAHAHAHA[p] LeCrueset has some nice enameled ones. I prefer Lodge's and if if you get the "pre-seasoned" ones season them anyway. As for cleaning I have never had an issue with cleaning them. [p]If you are cleaning after cooking acidic stuff boil some water in it as soon as the food is removed. Sweet Stuff should get the same treatment, but you can wait a little longer. Savory non-acidic stuff cleans out with damp towel.[p]Caked on stuff can be boiled out..

Celtic Wolf,[p]Thanks for the information. LeCrueset's stuff is very nice but so expensive. I was leaning towards Lodge's. What do you like to cook in them?

Celtic Wolf,
For anyone in the southeast. If you are ever driving between Chattanooga and Nashville on I-24 get off on the South Pittsburgh exit and go approx. 5 miles south to the Lodge cookware outlet store, great savings.

I really like the Lodge preseasoned ones and use them in my BGE often. I picked up several sizes from 10" to 14" in normal and deep versions.[p]The camp dutch ovens with the legs sit nicely on the inverted plate setter. The flat bottom ones will sit on the grate or you can use the ceramic egg feet to lift them up a bit. It is best to have some airflow underneath if they are sitting on a platesetter.[p]Mine gets used alot for making baked beans, stew, chili, soups, etc.[p]Leave the lid off if you want to add some smokey flavor!

Ref1515,[p] Ohhhhh lots of stuff

Rusty Rooster,[p] Exit 149 on I-95 Commerce Georgia too. I don't go to Atlanta without stopping there[p]
-
Celtic Wolf,
Could you possibly mean I-85?
-
The South Pittsburg, TN store is right next door to the factory. There are also a factory outlet store around Atlanta off of I-85 and another off of I-40 just outside of Knoxville on the way to Pidgeon Forge.[p]That one is next door to a Coleman factory outlet that has great deals on Coolers. I like the bib eXtreme ones that keep ice frozen for six days.[p]
-
Rusty Rooster,[p] yeah the other I-95 hahahaha[p]Dayum typos are gonna get be killed...[p]
-
Celtic Wolf,
Typos? Sure you are just not still in FL in your mind? HAHA
-
Rusty Rooster,[p] Yeah that's it.. I was on I-95 all that time.. yep sure was.. [p] Did I ever tell you I hate Pedro's South of the Border?? All those dayum Billboards make the trip seem longer...[p]

Ref1515,
I just got the Lodge 6 qt last week and did red beans in it and did pineapple upsidedown cake last week. It worked great! Mine was around $40 from sportsman's wearhouse.

Ref1515,
I got a Lodge enamel 5qt dutch oven at Sam's for about $68. That was in the central Florida area about 2-3 weeks ago. It had a "One Time Buy" sign on the stack.[p]Smoke 'n Things

Ref1515,
I love dutch ovens!!! You can do alomost anything in them. Baked beans, Country style green bean, braises and stews etc. I would wonder how the enamel ones of either company might look with the smoke on them. Think I would stay with traditional cast iron.
oxtails!

A local tool seller has some 11 Qt ovens for $19.99. Lumpy Chinese stuff, but cast iron. I feel bad walking by that aisle without buying one.

Ref1515,[p]There is a lot of info on Dutch ovens in the archives. See the link for one of them.[p]Dave

Ref1515,
I bought mine at wally world. Made by lodge, the egg works great to season cast iron. I got my egg up around 400, pre heat the peice for a couple of minutes and then throw a light coat of crisco on, put it back in the egg. Repeat if neccesary. Soap and acidic foods eat seasoning.
