Dreo air fryer with steam injection and presets
https://youtu.be/Z9EbFJG2aHcI haven't spent anyone else's money in awhile, and Mike from Pro Home Cooks did an 18-minute tryout of this thing. It's not perfect, but very intriguing. There's still five days left in their Kickstarter campaign, and at $259 now/$359 MSRP its a hell of a lot less expensive than an Anova or similar (I have no financial interests in this project).
I don't have any counter space left in my kitchen, but I realized the other day that I've used my rotary meat slicer exactly twice, and it could probably live on a shelf somewhere which would free up some countertop. Hmm.

Just like with small/portable pizza ovens I have no doubt there will be many more entrants into the "steam oven" marketspace.

Agreed. I've paid into two kickstarter projects, but the first didn't understand galvanic corrosion and the second took over two years to get the final product, so I think I'm done playing with those. I still buy green bananas but at my age not sure I want to wait two years again for an item.HeavyG said:Just like with small/portable pizza ovens I have no doubt there will be many more entrants into the "steam oven" marketspace.
Wouldn't surprise me to see a Breville airfryer/steamer/music-n-home hub/bottle opener in just a couple months. I'm okay to just be happy with what I have."First method of estimating the intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him."

SWMBO has been trying to convince me to get an air fryer for quite some time but I don’t see myself using it much. I may bite if Anova combi oven drops below 500 loonies, counter space is overrated for empty nesters living in a four-bedroom storage unitpaqman said:

yes sir, that’s what I paid.Canugghead said:Stop it!
Edit: btw, $390+tax now
The only disappointment so far is that it doesn’t look like I can setup my own sequences/recipes. You basically need to use one of their recipes or one of the few manual modes.____________________Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage. •Niccolo Machiavelli -

Curious if the design allows download of future recipe releases? Also, are you going to try making crusty bread?canuckland -

They apparently release recipes on a regular basis (monthly ?). You can upload recipes developed by the manufacturer from the mobile application to the air fryer « favorite » menu.
You can also save simple (1 step) recipes to the « favorite » menu. As an example, I just cooked a hot dog for 5 minutes @ 390F classic air fryer mode. I could see that in the history section of the mobile application, save it to the air fryer « favorite » menu, and give it a custom name, « hot dog ».
What I cannot do is design my own multi steps sequences. As an example, I think that when you say crusty bread, you mean injecting steam; you cannot inject steam manually, or in your own recipes. To inject steam, you need to use « chef mode » recipes on the device or upload one from the app that has been designed by the manufacturer. I don’t see a way to design my own. And, as I don’t see any recipe for bread, I won’t bake crusty bread with steam injection unless the manufacturer releases a recipe...
About steam injection, I am not sure that it is in fact steam. There is a nozzle that injects a very fine mist of water all over the surface of the basket (food). I am not sure if it ends up simply keeping the surface of the food moist or if it immediately evaporates into steam. It does the job though; the flap steak that I cooked was simply perfect.
I am completely new to the air fryer world. I am in discovery mode right now just trying stuff. I am looking forward to trying Brussels sprouts and caramelized carrots chunks. (probably as a side tonight).
I may sound like I’m not happy with it but I am very impressed with the results so far. I am going to try shrimps for SWMBO tonight.

@paqman love it! Thankfully price is back up to $499, wallet safe. Seriously though, I don't need it (right?), also the capacity is kind of limited.
Re crusty bread, IIRC from an early review, someone did that in the Anova combi oven.canuckland -
I haven’t read much about the Anova combi oven but from what I can see the two devices are serving distinct purposes. The Dreo is an air fryer on steroid and should not be seen as a combi oven.Canugghead said:@paqman love it! Thankfully price is back up to $499, wallet safe. SWMBO has been asking for an air fryer every other month and I wasn’t seeing myself using it on a regular basis; I was wrong. It is a perfect device for the two of us.

We have a toaster oven with air fryer setting and use it all the time. Great for cauliflower and broccoli.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

One year review… it was a promising appliance but the front window is falling apart from the basket and it is no longer closing properly. The probe is working intermittently. Glad I purchased from Amazon, I contacted the company and they are issuing a full refund. They have recently made it possible to program our own custom cycles with steam. I am debating between ordering a new one or getting something else.____________________Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage. •Niccolo Machiavelli

Something I've been wondering since I got my Breville toaster oven over a year ago. It's not their "top-of-the-line" oven which specifically states an "air fryer" function; mine features a "convection oven" button. I've always wondered what the true difference is between them, haven't been able to find much on the 'net. It is a function I've enjoyed playing with, particularly with frozen/breaded foods.Legume said:We have a toaster oven with air fryer setting and use it all the time. I know this post is a year old, but I still don't really know if there's a difference, and how much that difference may be. Thanks @paqman for the long-term review of your appliance."First method of estimating the intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him."
