It's been captivating. I think we love these kind of things. It's like a car wreck that's slowly driving by us. We get to hope, we learn something about something we didn't know about. Some of us even become overnight experts. We love people that go big on adventures and of course it either ends up sad or it's an incredible story.
It's sad, but it's not terribly tragic, is it? People did more than choose that risk, they paid a bunch of money to attempt an epic adventure and were well aware of the risks. Nor shortage of info on this one.
Five people get killed by a drunk driver or someone with a gun, it's just not interesting or new or full of human spirit like this is. Not as captivating. More tragic though.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
I get it, Ozzie. I know this thread is about the catastrophic sub implosion and the lives lost. Truly tragic.

Rest easy, about 90% of the comments on the thread were folks correcting him on his incorrect use of the word "explosion".CTMike said:
Whoever Daniel Feldman is should probably learn the difference between an explosion and an implosion before trying to come across as some type of SME.HeavyG said:For anyone interested in taking a deeper dive (so to speak) into the carbon fiber hull here's an interestinig thread:
That aside, he didn't try to portray himself as a subject matter expert (I think he's an IT guy) he was just pulling together info from other sources that might help in understanding a bit more about the choice to use carbon fiber in this vehicle.
It was also interesting to learn that Rush knew that carbon fiber would get weaker after every dive so he invented an acoustic monitoring system to help in assessing the structural integrity of the hull.
Anyway, another interesting tidbit was added to the thread...

Terrible accident that seemed avoidable. When that moronic TV show host, Josh Gates, said he refused to use it due to potential safety hazards why wouldn’t billionaires?LBGE, 28” BS, Weber Kettle, HCI 7.8 SE Texas

. . . and some of us spent 20+ years on submarines that were designed so that the number of dives equals the number of surfaces and might know a thing or two about how such things should be designed and operated.Legume said:Some of us even become overnight experts.MMBGE / Large BGE / XL BGE (Craigslist Find) / SF30x80 cabinet trailer - "Ol' Mortimer" / Outdoor kitchen in progress.
