I've always put soaked chips or chunks directly in or around fire. But, I'm curious.....has anyone used a smoker box in their egg?

MikeM, You do not need to soak your chips or chunks or even use a smoker box in the Egg. The way the Egg is designed the chips or chunks will only smoke as they are supposed to do with the lid down.

    sigmore,
I agree completely. They do not burn, because the oxygen is controlled. Now then if you are going for lava and Trex, it could be different.

    MikeM,
skip the soak. that's for leaking gassers (same for the smoker box). [p]no need.[p]the box holds the ash, which is handy in a gasser which otherwise has no ash. since you are dealing with ash every cook, why screw with a box/ besides, your fire will give you the big middle finger and wander off from where you placed the box...[p]in other words.[p]just toss in the wood and shut the lid.

    BobS,
still holds true, believe it or not.[p]if your egg is at 1100 degrees, and you toss in a chip of wood and shut the lid, it'll smoke only.
open the lid? FOOMP! it'll burst into flame.[p]coolest thing.[p]i love the damn egg.
