Whole Pork Shoulder Cooking Time ???

My local market just started carrying whole pork shoulders. I usually cook 2 8lb butts indirect at 250 dome temp and they usually take 18 hrs give or take a few. I'm gonna try one this weekend and was just curious if anyone else is cooking whole shoulders and how long they are taking to cook as compared to the normal 8 lb butt cooks ??? Thanks !!!

FatBack,[p] Watch out for "Local Market" Pork products. They are usually "Enhanced"

Celtic Wolf, Thanks, It's actually a full service butcher shop within an ethnic product store. These are pure hog, I like you don't like the enhanced stuff. Anyone else out there cooking whole pork shoulders on the egg ???

I do quite a few whole shoulders throughout the year. Cooking times are about the same as a full load of butts. 14-18# shoulders generally run 16-18 hours, some more, some less, but that should put you in the ballpark.[p]Jim

FatBack,[p]For some more info on shoulders click this link to a thread from last year. Read the post from Night Help. It has a lot of good information in one place. Not ramblin' resposes like I sometimes give. LOL[p]I generally go a bit hotter on the pit temp at the beginning to reduce the cook time a bit.[p]~thirdeye~
