Life cycle of a LBGE nest when outside all the time-

Not wanting to hi-jack the free to a good home nest thread:
Looking for your experience with the life cycle of a nest. Mine (LBGE) is outside and has been for 11+ years, (Louisville area) but under some cover sitting on an aggregate concrete fully exposed porch. Based on the OP (of the offered nest) I have one data point of 16 yrs but don't know weather exposure.
Any insights appreciated as it has some weathering and rust formation. It does not move other than to pressure wash the area it sits on around once a year.

Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

I live on Galveston Island in Texas. I’m not beach front or bay front but our humidity level is always high. Combined with the salt air, corrosion is a big problem. Rusting, oxidation and wood rot is crazy bad. I guess I get about 5 years at the most from a BGE nest and just a little longer from the bands and hinges.
I have received a couple donated nest in the past from kind forum members.
Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -

individuals always employ protection.Gotta say that the quality of the BGE hardware has never impressed me. Seems like there is a good opportunity to upswell people on SS hardware the way that KJ does. -
I'm in a dryer climate and I redid mine after 10 years. Replaced some of the hardware. Soaked all of the hardware in deruster solution. Sanded some surface rust, and primed and painted with rustoleum high temp.
I'll prolly do this every 5 years and next time replace the casters.current: | Large BGE | Genesis 1000 | Genesis E330 | 22 inch Kettle | Weber Summit Kamado

My large nest has been exposed to the weather elements in SE Nebr. for 12 years. Rust on the tops of the upper bearing races which doesn't seem to hurt anything. Frame and casters are fine.Note that the Egg sits under a umbrella, that is for my benefit not the Eggs'.LBGE, LBGE-PTR, 22" Weber, Coleman 413GGreat Plains, USA

High desert here, ten years or so and no issues.
And thank you @dbCooper, I now have a new storage solution for a couple things! :thumbsup:___________"When small men begin to cast big shadows, it means that the sun is about to set."

We are in Alabama and I have our LG in a nest on our covered back porch. Don’t have to worry about rain unless it’s blowing sideways. I’ve had it in a nest probably 4-5 years with no problems. The grill also has a cover. I did upgrade the bands a few months ago. The rubber tabs on the nest have melted off though.LBGE

Like @Botch, I live in the high desert of utah. We are bone dry here, so my nests only get replaced when I upgrade. The old ones are in great shape still. I do wipe them down with mineral oil, and hit the wheel bearings/axl with WD40 a few times a year tho as well.
