-
here is another..https://www.restaurantequipmentsolutions.com/FRMP-133-1008.html or https://www.restaurantequipmentsolutions.com/FRMP-133-1009.html this one may just a bit large to get inside a XL. I dont own a XL so not sure what room you have
-
Lodge has a reasonably priced CI griddle. I bought one last year, to use on the LBGE, but it never made it outside. May have to buy another one.

just a big cast iron skillet with no handle

Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
dome open cooking you could use practically any flat object or pan or griddle if placed on a raised rack. im happier though with a blackstone griddle, easier to control. are you going to use it as a griddle or be closing the egg
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
I’ve got one very similar to this and it’s a beast. Use it on the large for burgers and fajitasPhoto Egg said:just a big cast iron skillet with no handle

There are 2 metal fabricators relatively close by from my location.
What metal would be the best choice and how thick?aka marysvilleksegghead

Get the same steel used for a flat top griddle. I think it's SS304.. not sure and being lazy. I just bought the Misen Oven Steel (food grade) you can bake, blacken, etc. Be sure to season. -
A36 carbon steel is what I had cut to use as my pizza stone. Mine is 3/8” and very heavy. I would go a little thinner if I did it again. It’s great as a pizza stone but I still use my large Lodge skillet way more in my XL. Mine is 3/8” and very heavy.

The Misen Oven Steel is indestructible, and its A36 carbon steel.2BAMBAM4 said:

Would be very expensive in SS304 in that thickness.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -

more pricey but these also work for pizza, searing steaks, scollops etc. lots of heat mass, can be used for an indirect setup. i got about 10 years before cracking a thinner one, maybe 1200 degree pizza cooks were pushing it

Yes, unlike stainless, carbon steel seasons much like a standard cast iron pan.loco_engr said:

And with very high heat, you can burn the seasoning off.
What is your main goal Dan? What are your main cooks going to be?
I have purchased several different flat searing things in the past. But my go to is still the large, small handle, cast iron pan.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
Thanks Darian . . . daughter mentioned cooking breakfast on an BGE. I'm pretty sure bacon will be involvedPhoto Egg said:

and all the grease that I don't want to run off the edge, so wanting a flat surface with a small edge to keep the bacon grease from dripping into the hot coals. aka marysvilleksegghead

Trying to do griddle work inset into the Egg is not all that fun. Getting it rigged to cook closer to felt level really helps. After you cook breakfast a couple times on the Egg, you might realize it’s just not worth the work to cook everything in the Egg.

We convert the XL to a full flat top for big cooks. 2 half moon griddles do the job.

I have a pizza kettle with one of these that doubles as a griddle on the egg.

I think these are the BGE cast iron half griddles. Yes, grease would leak out between the 2 griddle pieces. If not BGE, Kamado Joe also makes them for the Big Joe that fit the XL.loco_engr said:@SMITTYtheSMOKER

It looks like the "Plancha" half-moon BGE Griddles have a lip. To do the whole XL egg (2 halves), it looks like they cost about $160.

I’ll second theses guys, I have one on a kettle grill. If the can’t get you what you want try these guys https://theburnshopwf.com/Herky said:I have a pizza kettle with one of these that doubles as a griddle on the egg.

I just had them make a grate for another kettle -
I have the plancha half moon for the XL. I bought it with my Eggspander. Works pretty good.

The ones pictured are the KJ version, the BGE version does have a lip. I tend to use the raised grid side for veggies the most often.loco_engr said:@SMITTYtheSMOKER
