Top gasket peeled!

Went to do a pork butt cook on a cold Ohio day and as I opened the lid heard the ripping sound. Gasket must have been frozen in one section and it peeled some around the back.
It did not tear but looks to have stretched. At any rate the cook must go on!

Just peal off the old gasket and get a Rutland from RRP (Ron).
Northern Colorado Egghead since 2012.
XL BGE and a KBQ.

I haven't had a top gasket for years now. Works just as well without it. And it makes the replacement roll go twice as long

Thanks all. I appreciate the info as it was just sad as it’s only a year old. Still, all went fine and cooked these two boneless butts (twin pack from Costco) overnight and all set for dinner tonight.

I know this will be hard to believe, but the newer gaskets are much better than they were 15-20 years ago.lolWoodyXLBGE said:Thanks all. When I replace gaskets I just do the bottom and run bare on the dome.
No issues keeping low temps so far.
Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
my Rutland is at least 4 years old and as stated above running topless,
Give Ron RRP a shout out he will set you right up. -
A little 3m 77 spray glue will fix it.

I’ve said this before and will always. I’m a follower of the no gasket camp inspired by @Mickey. Many years have gone by with no loss of temp. A BGE rep told me once long ago gaskets are just cushions. Cook naked!!

4 Eggs zero gaskets. Works for me.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

I am relatively new to the Big Green Egg. I purchased a Large in May 2020. Every once in a while I see smoke escape from between the top and bottom half of the Egg. How can I tell if it's time to replace the gaskets? Your thoughts and suggestions? Thanks All

Well if it is the original you could reach out to the mothership as it is referred to.Or easiest Enter RRP in the search and have the man set you up with a rutland. I am going to say probably the last gasket you will buy for a long time.
