Picked up two Elijah Craig barrel proofs C920 and a Joseph Magnuson last week along with a Blantons and EH Taylor and some others.I found a couple honey holes. The barrel proofs were 40 less than I previously paid for them. Some places really hammer you rather than just make a bit extra on the allocated stuff. No pics of the EC or JM as they were a separate trip looking forward to the bowman stuff from Virginia too. Picked up a third one in that series at another spot. Time for a pause maybe

Nice score. I’m a fan of the Bowman Brothers but have not tried the John Bowman.pgprescott said:Picked up two Elijah Craig barrel proofs C920 and a Joseph Magnuson last week along with a Blantons and EH Taylor and some others.I found a couple honey holes. One of the three Bowman’s i got is port wood finished. I assume they are all the same distillery. I haven’t really looked that closely. I know the port wood and one of the others is supposed to quite nice. We shall see.saluki2007 said:

You sure did find honey holes. Blanton's is almost impossible to find down here and I've searched for EH Taylor forever with no luck. I'm surprised you didn't end up with a bottle of Very Olde St Nick too, ha!pgprescott said:Picked up two Elijah Craig barrel proofs C920 and a Joseph Magnuson last week along with a Blantons and EH Taylor and some others.I found a couple honey holes. You wont believe this but I walked into CVS and bought two more Blantons at retail! CVS!! They also had Eagle Rare at retail. Also went back to honey hole and picked up another EC barrel proof (left one for others) and a Dalmore cigar blend. BOOM!TechsasJim said:

I would recommend looking in the supermarkets and pharmacies these days. They know enough that they should carry some of these whiskies, but they have no idea what they are selling.I’m open to trading a couple bottles of Blantons or eagle rare or weller SR for stuff I don’t have. Michters 10, jos Magnuson cigar malt, weller 12, etc. -
@pgprescott
Down here in Texas only beer and wine can be sold in Pharmacies / Grocers. We have "liquor stores" for everything else. While I do have a favorite, local, liquor store and they carry some unique items, some of these unicorns are hard to find.
However, I did have a Michters 10 a while back, quite nice. As for Eagle Rare, I could never get into it, a bit too hot for my liking.
Regardless, great finds you are grabbing!LBGE, 28” BS, Weber Kettle, HCI 7.8 SE Texas -
Do the stores jack up the prices or are they heavily regulated? I hate the inflated pricing, but I'm sure the higher prices increase availability because many people just wont pay the inflated prices. I will pay up for a bottle here or there, but it gets offensive at times in certain stores.TechsasJim said:@pgprescott

I did pay $85 for a bottle of Blanton's once...once. The smaller, shadier, stores will try and gouge you, the chains charge msrp but the chains are hit frequently. Makes it tough for us working guys who can't be at a liquor store at 10:00am (when they open) and there are only a handful of bottles in allocation.
Ah well, still fun hunting for the unique finds.LBGE, 28” BS, Weber Kettle, HCI 7.8 SE Texas -
Yeah I used to buy Blantons for 60 all day and just about in every higher end store. Since the bourbon boom 5 years or so ago, it’s gotten ridiculous. Everyone wants100. Just about everyone. I just can’t do it. It’s not worth 100. Some guys want quite a bit more! Hell, they are asking 100 for Eagle Rare LOL!TechsasJim said:@pgprescott

Ah well, still fun hunting for the unique finds.One thing to keep in mind is that, at least around here, the distributor delivers on a specific day of the week. Say that day is Thursday, go that afternoon or the next day if possible. No guarantee but it is an advantage. Happy hunting! -
Friday shower beer. Its almost the weekend.

I drink cheap beer so I can afford good bourbon.

This is one of my favorite beers, the whole voodoo ranger series is so well done. Also it gets a big plus being offered in the nearly 20oz cans.bubbajack said:

I love Asheville breweries. I go over the mountain about 6-8 times a year and indulge. My favorite city.U_tarded said:

I’ll let it slide since they have a brewery in NC but New Belgium is Colorado based in Fort Collins. Which is a great beer city I went to college there and watched New Belgium grow up and move from a small local to employee owned and beyond.MotownVol said: -
