Smoking turkey - No deflector

Last year when I was smoking a turkey for Christmas (last minute decided to smoking it), I didn't have a deflector plate. I ended up making an apparatus out of foil, which fell apart towards the end. I was having a perfectly good time drinking beer on the porch but Christmas dinner deadline was approaching. So I loaded the baby up with quite a bit of lump and got her smoking. Turkey came out great.
I am smoking a turkey again this year, but the ceramic plate I bought broke a couple days ago when we were redoing the deck, so I'm in the same quandary. Any suggestions on smoking a turkey without any form of deflector insert? She's about 14 lbs.

How about a foil pan in place of a proper deflector? Put a bit of chicken or turkey stock in it and use it and the drippings for gravy.Plymouth, MN

Should fit:
fire ring+Grid+pizza pan+spacers/airspace+roasting pan+wire rack in pan+turkey -
Thank you. Suggestions on where/how to place it? I mean should I just try and wrap it around the top of the ceramic, under the rack? I say that because last time I just placed it over the lump at the bottom and ended up killing the fire after the second time I basted the turkey with the drippings.
That was why I ended up just piling lump in and getting the fire going. Not exactly sure how I can situate the foil with everything else.

You can spatchcock it or cut it in half and cook direct without a shield. Preferably raised up (there are tricks to doing this if you have no accessories)
