Rib Roast size

What is the max size bone-in rib roast  the Large will accommodate?  I’m thinking an entire 7 bone will not fit.

Depends on the size of the roast (no sh!t) but a 7 bone rib roast will vary somewhat in length.  You know how much real estate you have available so measure the roast and go from there.  It should fit as long as you aren't trying to go full indirect as some will overhang you heat deflector.  But you can address that will foil protection.  FWIW-

  • Cut it in two so you get four ends
  • Thanks guys.  I had to order this one in advance so I don’t know how big it will actually be until I pick it up,  I went ahead and ordered a 6 bone so if I have issues with length I’ll half it.

Of course, this could be an excuse to get an XL!

How many people are you feeding?  I’ve read one bone is enough for two people. I hope you’re being safe and having a small gathering.

with a regular platesetter you might safely get a 4 rib roast in there.  overdoing it is no bueno, you get too much overhang and the ends get torched.  oval stones from CGS are handy for cooks like this.

I usually do 3 bones which puts me in the 6# range.  Not feeding too many people though (4-6) and It will also be the second protein.
