The main control board was faulty and, of course, it is no longer in production. I ended up folding and just purchasing a new washer and dryer set. Hopefully, these last me 10 years like the last ones did.

Our dryer went tits up several years ago. Replaced the thermal fuse, but no dice. Called Sears repair service to take a look at it, and the guy was an idiot.

Punched some info into his Sears online tech manual or whatever and said "its either this, or this. I don't have the parts, so I'll have to order it. Then I'll come back, and put it in. And charge a service charge again + labor + parts. And if that doesn't work, I'll order the second part, then come back and charge you another service charge + labor +parts. "

Told him to fvck off and bought a dryer off craigslist for $ 80. It sounded like a freight train when it ran, but... it dried clothes. That died 2 years later. caliqueen and caliprince went to see a movie, and while they were gone, I found a dryer for $50 on OfferUp (newer than the previous one), picked it up, and hooked it up before they got home.

tl;dr= Look around - there are usually a lot of appliances on craigslist, OfferUp, LetGo, etc.

Replaced belt and every roller, spindle and brush pad in mine last week.
$50 Craigslist would have been cheaper. But it runs and sounds like new now. As a bonus, I had no leftover screws or bolts.lol

how long to take the drum out and reinstall, mine needs new rolers, the front seal, and probably the spindle bearings as well. my space only fits overunders which ups the price to replace
Start to finish was about an hour. But I went slow and cleaned/vacuumed as I went along. I also had 2 Teflon pads with cork backing, one on left side and one on right side that the front of the drum rides on. They were each held in pace with 2 rivets that had to be drilled out and popped back in with rivet gun. After watching a couple online videos it was pretty easy. I think both of the online videos I watched said the bolt on back of each roller was 3/4” but ended up being 1/2”.
I know you’re more mechanical than I am, so you are home free.

Maytag washer quit after 7 years. Repair guy said it would cost a few hundred to buy and replace the electronics that died. My biggest gripe is that I feel bad dumping this huge box ina landfill after 7 years.
If you know what parts need to be replaced, you should be able to do it yourself at probably 1/2 the cost.  There should be videos online that will show you how to do it.  It may be scary thinking about doing it yourself but most appliance repairs can be done by the owner.

does the speed queen beep and chirp for ten minutes before starting. bought a 1 year old washer off my repair guy for a hundred a few years back and it will drive you nuts. had to put a note next to it at camp with simple directions. turn water on, add clothes, ad detergent, set up and hit start, walk out of the house for 15 minutes, if you think its not working pour yourself a drink and walk away. did i say its insanely noisy, beepy, chirpy
My top loader does not. For reference, my washer is about 4 years old and was made prior to the government required lid lock.

Our Maytag W and D are sort of OK. Our dryer’s timer panel is not reliable and that scares me! My s-i-l has the same model and a Maytag repairman told her that “panel” costs more than a new dryer! While I personally have replaced belts and rollers on other brands of dryers I’m surprised no one in this thread has mentioned timers (aka the brains) going bad and the possible replacement.
