How Long Has BGE Mates Been Around?

I was thinking about picking up a set of mates for my parents BGE. My parents BGE has the older locking hinge band. Would anyone happen to know if that style band has holes for the clinch studs to be able to use with the mates?

Yes the obvious answer is to get a new band. That particular locking band gets bad mouthed around here. The funny part is that my parents BGE has no alignment issues and open and closes perfectly everytime. I can't even say that for my own eggs. So I'd hate to buy a new updated band when there is nothing wrong with the old one. I'm just not sure if they have the holes for the clinch studs.

    Should be able to look at the band and see if it has the extra holes.
    2 holes on each side about 13" span. I just went out and measure mine.
    Any other info I can help with give a shout.

    My son has a large with the handle on back to close it. and yes he put mates on it last year.

    Let me look......I want to say around 2001-2002??  

    The locking hinge......the short lived one with the little bar you had to push to unlock?  I think they had the mates by then.  They actually had a flip up plastic table that mounted in the front too (that didn't last long either.)

    I have an extra set of KJ mates that might work.  They're the black powder coated metal ones.  Been meaning to put them on my Large to see if they fit.

    Thank you everyone for the help. I ended up at my parents to help my dad with a project this evening. I was able to sneak out and see if the band had any holes and to my surprise they did.



    Just a little side gift for Christmas as I'm always looking for mates to set something down when I'm cooking on their egg. I'm also planning on some type of new handle as theirs is past saving.

    That is super generous of you! Thank you. I just sent an email to someone local who has had them posted for weeks on Craigslist. I'm thinking I'll be able to pick them up for cheap. I really appreciate your offer though!!!
