V Rack with Roasting Pan or not for Butterball 8 lb turkey?

We have a 9 lb Butterball Turkey that I will be smoking on the XL today at 325 dome temp. Question is should I just place it on the grate directly or use a V Rack and roasting plan. I will not be adding water to the pan as it can act as a heat sink if I go that route. Or should I just keep it simple and place directly on the rack. Cooking indirect with a Woo and 17 inch stone.

I think I will go without the pan an Vrack. Just a drip pan under the grate. The water pan can act as a heat sink throwing the temp off. I have the grate temp stabilized at 315 and the dome temp is at 325.

When going that route I go with the bird in the V-rack (if it fits-vertical clearance)  and the drip pan air-gapped off the platesetter.  FWIW-

The little Butterball Turkey turned out great. Just salt and pepper and stuffed the cavity with onions, garlic, celery and herbs.
Next time I will get a large fresh turkey and inject it but for only 2 this was good.
