Talk about a dream come true!

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Thanks. One of the few things I’ve done that turned out as planned.

Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

  • Congrats on the execution of your vision. What a great space and how truly satisfying to see it all come together. Funnily enough, my wife has made several mentions of an outdoor kitchen as of late. I know that if I show her this thread, it’ll really get her thinking. Only issue is that our climate would only allow for seasonal use. But we definitely have a good nook at the side of our house ripe for development. (Not the right perspective in the photo, but gives you an idea.)

@GrateEggspectations That’s a nice spot. A semi-enclosed space with an outdoor fireplace... Oh yeah.

I take it by “outdoor fireplace,” you are referring to the gasser. 🙃

  • That is a very inspiring setup.  Did you settle on 16 x 24? I thought I decided on having a sitting area on other end with a fireplace.  Your fire pit off to the side makes me rethink my idea.

@Eggin_in_PA Yes, we stayed with that size. It fits in the space available.
The fire pit area was put into a part of the yard that is always in shade and grass wouldn't grow. We've enjoyed that area a great deal.

  • If more space would have been available, would you have gone bigger?  16ft should be wide enough, but the length gives me concern.  Ideally 24 x 50 lol, but things would look cluttered.  I really have to keep things scaled as our house is small.  Your layout looks well proportioned.

The width works for me. If I had it to do over a bit larger would always be nice. If I had room I would have made my hearth 1 1/2 foot wider at least. (it also really needs a vent).
So your question is tough because I'd have made it substantially bigger if space and $$ had not been an issue. As it is though it is comfortable in the kitchen for groups of 4-6 people. More folks have to flow out around the fire pit. We've had 30-35 people (pre-COVID) and managed them well if the weather is nice.

  • I will have to mark out an area and stage some things to see.  Just like a garage, it can never be big enough.  Just need to figure out the resonable side of it.  I appreciate your insight.

We were going to buy a new house but this pandemic and a new world dystopia got in the way so we decided to stay.  I have some plans to do an outdoor kitchen but it's down on the list below "new roof" and some honey-do stuff.

  • That's a sight to behold and it is a structure and design equal to your considerable skills.

We are trying to get ours finished before the cold sets in up here . . . started as a "we're going to be home for a while" COVID-inspired fireplace and patio project, but mission creep has resulted in a water feature and outdoor cooking space.  Fireplace is done, patio is done, water feature is done, but kitchen is lagging behind, the result of lots of challenges with moving/placing the underground gas line, finicky subcontractors, long-delays for certain materials, and multiple design audibles as the project progressed.  It's nothing so elaborate as yours; just a "simple" (ha!!) "L" shape run of stone over block, with the gasser and egg built in, a dry sink for beverages, and some strategically placed storage underneath. No fridge or other appliances to break/replace, no running water (as it's located just off the kitchen), and hopefully low maintenance for good cooking for years to come.  Tired of hearing stone cutting and ready to be egging in a new space as inviting as yours!
    It's a 302 thing . . .

@HendersonTRKing "Mission creep" I love that. I've certainly had that issue myself. I understand the sentiment about stone cutting. I cut and edged all the limestone in my kitchen. I'll be happy if I never have to do it again.
