Lid/band adjustment

I have a significant air gap running across roughly the front most quarter or so of the Egg. Probably six or so inches to each side of the center point of the front. Dollar bill test fails miserably there. Everywhere else around it’s snug. I have older style bands - roughly 2000 or so.

Do I just loosen both bands then (hopefully) it self-adjusts and then I re-tighten? Does the hinge get involved (I hope not).

Suggestions appreciated. I have never dealt with bands before.

Oil all your pivot points first. Many times, the friction at tight pivot points is what leads to bands working out of alignment.
Also helps to know what size Egg you have. Large and XL bands are very different.
Look at the front of your Egg. Look at the spacing of your top band and see if there is room for the dome to move down and band to go up.
If there is,  I would tighten the lower band and make sure it's tight.
Then loosen the bolt on the upper band and position the dome flat to the base and then tighten the bolt for the upper band. Get someone to help hold the dome down and correctly positioned while you tighten if needed.

It’s a large. Sorry I didn’t mention that. Thanks for the advice. Especially the “get a second person” part 😀

As for the “get a second person” I always have told people that if their egg is in a nest and they have a small child who is willing then place a board on top of the throat of the dome and have them sit on it. If your egg is in a table then have your spouse sit on that board. BUT better not laugh at her nor take a picture. Or if you are single then a 2x4 across the throat and 2 long wood working clamps will also do the trick.
